A few weeks back, I told the story of Sam’s great opportunity… Out of that came three new horses.
I had specified in the exchange, that I wanted three of the most affable, smallest and halter trained wild horses they had…
And that is EXACTLY what I got. Thank you, LIFESAVERS, for honoring my request.

Satchmo, the white BLM donkey, Rebecca, the red (soft eyed) 6 year old mustang mare and little Opie – the red roan long mustang yearling. They hadn’t met until they trailered together to me.
THE NEW HORSES!
I’m not sure of their names, but right now I’m calling them:
–Rebecca: A Beautiful, small 6 year-old mustang mare with a very soft eye like MT’s and crazy red hair in her mane. (Hubby doesn’t like that name. He wants her to be “Lucille” like Lucille Ball.)
–Opie: A Tiny, red roan mustang baby, long weanling gelding with a tuft of red hair and a very mature attitude: Opie (for now… as he grows, I think I will call him “Richie” and then “Ron” or “Mr. Howard” because he reminds me of Ron Howard.)
–Satchmo: A White BLM donkey, gelding 7 years old with a bray that sounds like a bad trumpet playe. (Hubby wanted to call him “Coltraine”.)

They have their own paddock – although I have let them in with all the others. Annie picks on Opie, so I have to be careful. But the larger group, headed by Rojo, have been fairly good to them – so far.
A LITTLE ABOUT THEM…
As you know, they arrived and then I left for Wyoming. But, here is what I feel from them so far.
–Rebecca is very sweet and mothering. She was willing to make friends with me instantly and has grown very protective of Opie, who she just met on the ride to my house. Rebecca will school him and direct him, and watch over him when he naps. She is PERFECT for him and I already feel very warm around her because her eye reminds me of MT.
Also… Rebecca is fierce. I put them in with Annie, Dodger and Norma Jean – and Rebecca dominated ALL of them. She is little but very brave.
–Little Opie is a hoot! When he first arrived, he refused to let me touch him. He wouldn’t look at me and made it clear that he wanted nothing to do with me… Ouch.
But, now I know that he just didn’t like the change. I’m sure he missed his old digs and friends – probably – but now he is very settled and much more obliging to me. He even comes up for rubs.
Opie knows his place at the bottom of the pecking order, and he has learned to be very respectful. Mama Rebecca handles him well. He loves her.
–Satchmo is DARLING! He is bright, willing, attentive, friendly and wants to be petted and messed with AT ALL TIMES. I adore him already. Although I fear the neighbors are not happy with his off pitch Donk Alarm 2000.
Sadly, Norma Jean wants NOTHING to do with Satchmo. But, I will keep trying.
More adventures to come!

I put the new group in with Annie, Dodger and Norma Jean. They look settled, and they were… but around feeding time, Annie became aggressive with Opie so I separated them. I will have to be careful of Annie’s dominance when she is upset. Sadly, Norma Jean wanted nothing to do with Satchmo.

Mama Rebecca (who has the most kind eye – just like MT) totally mothers little Opie – even though they just met on the ride to my house. Opie adores her.

The new three hang out by the little tree and tiny triangle shade area. The baby, Opie (with the wild red mane), takes naps under the triangle while the others stand guard.

They are all just beautiful! I have fallen in love with ‘lil Opie. He is the most beautiful color! You are such a wonderful person to take these three precious animals and give them all a new and wonderful beginning! Thank you!
Dawn,
I just love them!!!!
