TICK BORNE EQUINE DISEASES.

I was at the vet’s office yesterday with the new pups.

My vet, who used to be my horses’ vet but then moved over to the other side (small animal), is now my dog vet.  (sigh)

Anyway, Mario was telling me how important tick prevention was for my puppies.

Hmmmmmm.

That got me thinking about my horses.

What about them?

So, when I got home, I hit the Internet.

The best remedy is PREVENTION (no affiliation)

All of the websites say that prevention is key to tick borne diseases (Lymes, etc…).  It is much easier to not acquire any tick borne diseases than it is to fight them.

Prevention seems fairly easy…

For me, I’ve been happy with these tags I found on the Equestrian Collection (love the one time shipping deal, too!).  However, I couldn’t find any horse tick tags on there today so I went to another website (The Genuine Shoo Tag) and found the horse tick tags there.  (no affiliation)

*As an aside, the tick/flea/mosquito tags I bought for my dogs from the same company, work great!  I have not seen a tick on any of my dogs since I used the tags which attach easily to their collars.

Amazing – and no toxic scent!

These tags are great at keeping away flies/ticks and mosquitoes! Click here to go to the website. Works on Dogs, too! My dogs wear them. (no affiliation)

TICK BORNE DISEASES!

I read and read and read … so many veterinarian reports and owner feedback…

Finally, I came upon one report filed by Ocean State Equine Associates.  Their paper seemed the easiest to read (lots of photos and diagrams) and the simplest to understand.

So, I’m reprinting it here.

If you’d like to go to the website and grab the pdf for yourself and read it in its entirety, here is that link.

Thank you, OSSA for taking the time to write such a nice article.  The paper is called:
