I am a big fan of beet pulp pellets as a ‘bucket food’ substitute. It isn’t a grain but is excellent fiber for your horse without the sugar or grain issues.
For me, beet pulp is really inexpensive, keeps the weight on, is palatable and my horses love it.
I use it to keep my older horses/ponies topline and to hide their supplements. My younger horses get it as well, because I don’t believe in feeding grains regularly.
Anyway, the one drawback with beet pulp pellets is that you HAVE to soak them overnight.
For me, soaking the pellets overnight isn’t an issue because I luckily have a refrigerator in my barn where I keep one bucket of beet pulp pellets soaking at all times.
Many of my friends don’t have refrigerators – and they simply keep buckets soaking wherever they can – and it works out fine.
However, this may not be easy for some of you.
But, never fear…
Speedi-Beet and Fibre Beet (with alfalfa) are here!
SAMPLES CAME WHEN I ORDERED EVITEX (No affiliation)
I ordered some Evitex from Emerald Valley Equine for Tess and her Cushings. In the box came some samples of Speedi-Beet and Fibre-Beet.
The Speedi-Beet said it could be ready in 5 minutes if soaked in hot water!!
The Fibre-Beet said it could be ready in 45 minutes if soaked in hot water!!
Wow! What a great solution…
I had to do a trial!
THE TRIAL PHOTOS!

Here is my Fergus clock, telling me what time I poured in the proper amounts of hot water onto each sample.

Here is the Speedi-Beet sample after 5 minutes soaking in hot water! It is ready, just like they said it would be.

Here is the clock showing the time I thought the Speedi-Beet sample was ready to give to Tess… approx 5 mins after being soaked in hot water.

Here is the Fibre-Beet sample that had been soaking in hot water for 45 minutes. I was nervous to feed her any alfalfa, but my Founder Warrior vet told me that this would be OK… (I plan on asking her more about alfalfa/founder when she is here on Thursday.)

Again, I gave it to my taste-tester, Mama Tess, and she ate the whole thing. Lickidy split!
