FINALLY, A WINTER RIDING SHIRT THAT DOESN’T DIG (and dig and dig) INTO THAT SOFT SPOT UNDER YOUR CHIN! Does that happen to you?!

I do not know WHY this took soooo long to figure out, but finally I have found a winter riding shirt zipper that doesn’t dig into my neck.

I don’t know if it was just me – I suspect not – but the top of the zippers would always, ALWAYS dig right into the spot below my chin.  What is that?  Upper neck?  Glottis?  Whatever it is called, it gets cold in the winter.  So, I usually wear some type of high necked shirt and a zippered shirt over that.  Layers.

Well, invariably, no matter what I did short of wrapping my neck in a scarf, that dang zipper (or button or whatever) would dig into my underchin area.  Usually, I’d get so irritated that I’d just unzip the darn thing.  But, that defeats the purpose.

Does that happen to you?

I was kinda stuck with no perfect solution.

Lo and Behold…  Noble Equine figured it out!  (No Affiliation)  I found a zippered sports shirt that doesn’t DIG INTO MY NECK!

MY FAVORITE PART!! See how the covered zipper doesn't dig into my neck?! Love that! And it wasn't expensive (now they are on sale at StateLine!)

COVERED ZIPPERS!!  Plus (squealing with delight) …finger holes, long material to cover hiney, the hood actually works!, it isn’t heavy or hot and has pockets…!

Lo and Behold, I found that these two (relatively inexpensive for what you get) shirts from Noble Equine – The Josie Zip Mock and the Sierra Hoodie – have covered the top of the zipper with soft material!

Ahhh, finally someone understood!

I would have bought these shirts for the covered zipper-end alone… but there were so many other things I have since learned to love about them after extensive wear this Fall/Winter…

Thumb hole – if you haven’t tried these, you must!   For me, I wear them to keep my hands warm (and my sleeves down)… plus those holes make it easy for me to have a quick ‘fingerless glove’ effect when riding or messing with tack (or opening a jar).

Long material in back – I love when the back of a shirt is longer than the front.  I just feel more secure that my shirt won’t separate from my warm back and expose me to the elements.  Or, if I’m just running errands, I like to have that part of me covered, a bit.

Not hot – I don’t know about you, but so many of these athletic shirts are HOT.  It is rare to get this kind of nice thermal comfort without the heavy pricetag, if you know what I mean.  These shirts were both really comfy warm, not hot.  And, when I did get sweaty (yes, Mother, women don’t sweat, they glow…), they both did a great job of wicking.

Love, love, love the hood! – This is the first hood ever that allows me to stay warm, it fits under my helmet comfortably and I CAN SEE out of it!  I hate it when you turn your head in a hood but the hood doesn’t go with your head.  Argh.  With this hoodie, it is made for a human being.  It actually does what it is supposed to do.  It fits under my helmet easily and without thermonuclear heat.  And, if I am just running around, I can keep up the hood if I am cold and my neck actually stays warm without feeling like I am wearing a hospital collar.

Good zippers – As I’ve stated before, I detest being poked in the chin with the top of a zipper.  So, the fact that these are covered is excellent.  But even better, the zippers are those flat kind that are easy to use and never pinch the skin.

I have washed these many times and they still look great! I love the hood on the Hoodie. It actually works! And it fits under a helmet comfortably - not like a medical collar.

I ONLY WISH…

I only wish the Zip Mock had pockets.  That would be perfect.  But, to be fair, I have never worn it without having a jacket around or packs on my saddles… so I don’t really miss the pockets in the Zip Mock… I’m just a girl who likes pockets on everything.

(The Hoodie has pockets with those same, durable, flat zippers.)

I SAW THAT THEY WERE ON SALE!!!     STATELINE TACK HAS THEM ON SALE!  25% OFF, it says!  $19.99 on some!!

So I knew I wanted to write about these Noble Equine shirts and now I see that Stateline Tack has a bunch of Noble Equine apparel on sale!  Some say as low as $19.95!  (I think that is a trick but not sure…)

Anyway, go to Stateline Tack and enter “Noble Equine” in the SEARCH box.  I hope you get one of these for the lowest price possible!!!!
