Our art gallery in Paso Robles is a co-op where local artists rent their section/space where they display their work in a museum/retail environment. If the artist is there, you have an opportunity to chat and often watch them work. I love going there!
Well, on Friday, I was downtown and had time to kill… so I ran over to the art gallery to check out what was new.
WOWEE WOW WOW.
I am in love and covet this enormous charcoal drawing of mini donks. I think the drawing is actually bigger than lifesize. It is 8ft x 6 ft. HUGE.

He also had a cat… it was huge, too! After I spoke to the artist, he said he was still perfecting this one…

This is a photo I grabbed from a small video on his website. My photo is small but the drawing is HUGE. Bunny in a basket. Perfect for Easter.
THE ARTIST – JOE THOMAS from Fat Goat Farm!

This photo is from the website. It is kinda small and hard to make-out… but it is the artist, standing in their fruit orchard, drawing on a huge sheet of paper.
The artist was not in the room, but there were cards. I grabbed one. Joe Thomas from Fat Goat Farm.
I ran to my car and texted him – I was so excited about the donkeys. I asked how he protected the drawing (charcoal on paper) and if he knew of a framer that could handle his work carefully.
He told me that he puts glassine paper over them and rolls them up for transport – easy. And, there is a local framer who works with his pieces all the time.
Covet. Covet. Want.
THE ACTUAL DONKS ARE HIS PAIR OF MINIS – Klaus and Frankie
So when I arrived home, I ran to my computer to look up the Fat Goat Farms Facebook page.
Lo and behold, I saw the models for the drawing I love – Klaus and Frankie.
I am thinking that he captured the expression of the donks so well because they are his donkeys and he knows them…
Could you imagine being able to work on a huge canvas (paper) like this, in your beautiful orchard?!
Also on the Fat Goat Farm FB page, I saw that they grew grapes for a wonderful restaurant/vintner in the area. And, they grow organic fruit. Yum. But the best part by far, is that they also have a bevvy of little animals and huge dogs! Of course I love this. When I retire, I will have another set of English Mastiffs and as many mini animals as we can afford!
