I saw these Scoot Boots from Australia on FB… and was very interested. They are created by the designer of the original Old Macs. That had me intrigued. Old Macs are great boots!
So, these are his new and improved idea. Easy to fit, easy to wear, won’t get soggy or heavy, durable.
I have not tried them yet. I’d like to hear from you if you have tried them. There are many, many testimonials on the website. You can read testimonials here.
And the best part is that the Scoot Boot company will size them remotely for you. All you do is take three photos (instructions and references on the website) and they send out a pair. If it doesn’t fit, they will send a new pair.
Sounds very interesting. I want to try a pair, don’t you?
Here is the website.

LET THEM SELECT YOUR SIZE! – (from the website)
We offer a free sizing service simply because we get it 98% correct and our customers who size themselves only get it 60% right. Getting it correct the first time eliminates return issues.
Due to variables in a hoof shape, there is a chance we may size your horse incorrectly so do not assume that the size we advise is correct. If the size does not feel correct please contact us to seek further advice.
Before measuring, ensure your horse has had a correct barefoot trim (ie rolled toe, bevelled hoof wall and low heel). Measurements need to be taken within 2 weeks of a trim.
Take three photos of each hoof as per the images below:
- first photo – start your tape measure at the center of the toe and work backwards over the frog towards the heels. Do not start at the heels and work forwards
- second photo – place your tape measure across the widest part of the hoof
- third photo – front of hoof which shows shape
Send your three photos to sizing@scootboots.com or inbox us at https://www.facebook.com/scootbootdownunder/?ref=hl
If our size selection is incorrect, return your Scoot Boots and we will exchange free of charge for the correct size (only if purchased from our online retail store).
Use one boot only to size up both front feet with your horse standing on a soft clean surface.
If your horse clearly has two different sized hooves then you will need to send us sizing pics of both hooves.
Please follow our ‘fitting’ instructions to ensure your size is correct.
The information below are instructions to follow should you decide to select your own size
Once your horse’s hooves have been trimmed correctly:
- With a ruler or tape measure, measure the LENGTH from the GREEN line at the tip of the toe to the GREEN line at the rear of the hoof at the very end of the heel buttresses (to ensure you have located this position run a rasp across both heels and the correct measuring point is the last part of the heels that physically makes contact with the rasp before the heels drop away towards the collateral grooves) DO NOT MEASURE FROM RED LINE INDICATED BELOW
- Our sizes increase in 5mm (3/16”) increments. Always select the smaller boot size if you are in between measurements. For example if your hoof length measurement following the GREEN line is between 121mm (4 13/16”) and 124mm (4 15/16″) long select the hoof measurement of 120mm (4 3/4”) on the chart which indicates you require size 3
Step 2
Measure the WIDTH of the hoof at the widest part and select the correct WIDTH.
Step 3
Now that you have the LENGTH and the WIDTH go to the size chart below and select your size.
Please Note
- If you find one hoof is a size smaller then you may purchase your Scoots in singles.
- If one hoof is in between sizes, select the boot size that matches the largest hoof. Our Scoot Boots are designed to allow for growth between trims.
- If your horse’s hooves are 10mm (3/8″) wider than long you need to select the size from the ‘maximum’ width measurement and not length measurement (for example, if your hoof length is 110mm (4/18″) and width is 120mm (4 3/4″) you select size 2). If your horse’s hooves are 10mm (3/8″) wider than longer it is important you follow our trimming instructions or you will have a boot size too large due to measuring excess width/flare that should have been removed
- If the hoof length exceeds the hoof width by more than 10mm (3/8″) then Scoot Boots may not be suitable for your horse (if your horse’s hooves fall into this category you will need to have Scoot Boots fitted by your barefoot trimmer)
- If the hoof width exceeds the hoof length by more than 10mm (3/8″) then Scoot Boots may not be suitable for your horse (if your horse’s hooves fall into this category you will need to have your Scoot Boots fitted by your barefoot trimmer)
- If you require Scoot Boots for front and rear hooves but you are unsure of size we recommend you purchase one pair initially to determine correct size
I FOUND THIS VIDEO… IT IS IN FRENCH, BUT YOU GET THE GIST…
There are many videos on You Tube that speak about the virtues of the Scoot Boot, but for me, this one was the most robust. Even though it is in French, you can see how she rode these boots in many different conditions and at all speeds. She shows you how they should fit and how easy they are to put on and take off.
