2 WRANGLERS AND ME… (the BEST way to ride!)

First off, before I tell you about my day, I wanted to tell you about the BEST pair of jods/pants/riding tights EVER.  I got them just before I came on this trip!

NO AFFILIATION.  I’M JUST SAYIN’ – LOVED MY NEW TIGHTS!

Goode Rider Full Seat Designer Seamless Tights (no affiliation).   Comfy Spanx for riders!  I’ve worn many riding pants… and these were SO COMFORTABLE, I may never wear anything else again.  I’m sure I will wear them again tomorrow.  I felt like I was wearing air.  AWESOME.  They were just the right weight, I wasn’t hot or cold, they had no seams to bunch, they stayed in place, had very complementary contours (like Spanx for riding) and the sticky part was perfect without having the leather heat or bulge.

I have a bunch of other riding tights, but these win.  Hands down.  Good job, Goode Rider!

You can purchase them from Riding Warehouse through this link. (No affiliation other than the Riding Warehouse benefits the Bucket Fund.)

Very, very happy.

Here is a pic of me wearing them in ‘dark pewter’ (almost olive greeny grey) and then some better shots from the Goode Rider website.

This is my leg… I love the contouring of the material. Like Spanx for riding!  Amazingly comfortable, attractive and secure! Goode Rider full seat tights!

I actually used that little pocket to hold my phone under my shirt. But it is really only big enough for keys or a chapstick. The sticky seat part is very subtle, but it does the job well!

This is a good shot of how they work. I love these. I would like a few pair and only wear these unless it gets really cold. I was super comfy all day!

OK, ONWARD – MY DAY!!  FIRST, THE BREAKFAST RIDE!

The morning started out with a lovely breakfast ride.  Petunia was quite pokey and slow so I spent a bit of time concerned over her.  (As a testament to the R Lazy S wranglers, when I voiced my concern, they pulled her from the string and tested her feet, shoes and legs.  Yay!  She was fine.  She probably just didn’t sleep well.)

Here are some pics from the Breakfast ride:

A lovely Ranch breakfast…

There was a photog there and this photo is of the kids here during this week. We all took photos while he was taking photos.

Then the photographer asked all the kids to ‘jump’!

LUNCHTIME… I spent time with the horses

I love to watch the horses… so at lunch time, I walked over to the corrals.

Interesting.

Freckles came over to me… I know his name was ‘Freckles’ because his halter said so…

He came right up to me and we chatted.

This mare came right over to me and sniffed my neck as I was taking a photo of the other horses. So, I took her photo, too! These horses are happy!

I DON’T KNOW WHY BUT I HAD THE INCREDIBLE GOOD FORTUNE TO RIDE ALONE WITH 2 WRANGLERS AFTER LUNCH!!  MY PRIVATE WYOMING.

Sometimes, Lady Luck spills her drink on you and sometimes she twirls you around the dance floor.  Today, I got the Dancing with the Stars version!

I have no idea how the ‘wranglers to guests’ are chosen, but I ended up being the only person who wanted to go on a ‘trotting’ ride after lunch.  So, while all the other guests either walked or loped, I got to have a private tour of the Park with 2 of my own wranglers.

It was glorious and epic.

We trotted and trotted and went wherever we wanted and for longer than usual.  I took a ton of photos and languished in the beauty.  I was drunk with awe-inspiring scenery on horseback.

It. was. the. best.  (so far).  Here are pics.

The other riders look so small… gives perspective.

That is ‘Rob’ the Wrangler. He was in front. “Charlie” was behind me. LOOK at this valley!

Could you imagine living in this house?!

Another gorgeous meadow…

And another.  The entire afternoon ride was a spectacle of Mother Nature at her best.

After my ride, I sat on a swing and waited for Hubby to come in from his ride. Seems like a backdrop and not a real place.

This is me, sitting in the swing waiting for Hubby. Gloves off, helmet off, PEACE. Loved the day!

DAY 2! Onion allergies, forgotten photos, Barnies and a great nap!

Today was an interesting and fun day… as I sit on my cushy matress, typing to you, I can hear all the merrymakers having fun after dinner.  It is still light out.  Hubby came in a minute ago and grabbed his bottle of bourbon, so I think he might be sitting around the fire telling war stories – literally – with the other men here.

This photo is from yesterday. It is our friend Adam and his horse Joe. (That is me in the background - oddly enough.)

TODAY!

Today I woke up feeling Limey (I have Lyme Disease.  Mostly I manage it through diet, sleep and stress moderation – but sometimes it rears its ugly head.)  I think the last few months of moving, etc. has taken its toll.   I told Hubby that I was not feeling very well so we decided to do only one ride and take a nap in the afternoon.

Our morning ride was GLORIOUS.  It was so glorious that I forgot to take many photos!  Mostly it was single track trails through the forests of Teton National Park.  Beautiful.  We were shaded and the forest was cool.  It didn’t occur to me to take photos until after we were out!  Drat!

My horse, Petunia, was much more lively today.  She had new shoes put on last night so I’m thinking she was feeling lighter.

Hubby said that his horse, Cochise, was more calm today.  Hubby loves Cochise – which is interesting because he was very upset that he didn’t get Rosie from the previous years.  But, after riding Cochise, he prefers the huge draft cross.  They are always at the front of the pack… Cochise is energetic and, according to Hubby, has lovely gaits.

I love anytime we are near the Snake River.

Screen Shot 2016-08-09 at 8.19.32 PM

I was in the rear … here we are just coming over the water bridge into a huge meadow. Hubby is on the big Paint, Cochise.

NAPTIME

After (a delicious) lunch, we had naptime.  Hubby read and I slept.  Afterwards, I felt a bit more refreshed but not hunkydory.  We decided to go into Jackson to purchase a few sporting undergarments when I felt my face get really hot and lumpy.  Allergies struck!  I’m allergic to bulbs (onions, garlic…) and I had onion soup at lunch.  Why I did that, I have no idea.  I knew it was onion soup but I went ahead and ate it anyway.  “Gee, I’m on vacation, maybe my allergies are, too…”.  Wrong.

But, the reaction wasn’t too bad.  It only made me red, lumpy and sleepy…

So, after a great (garlic free) Italian dinner (with tiramisu dessert!), I came back to the room to rest and blog.  I’ll probably sleep as soon as we are done here.  I want to be fresh in the morning because it is PICTURE DAY.  Saying that reminds me of grammar school.  Anyway, I cannot be all blotchy and sleepy, so I need to lay low and take care tonight!

Screen Shot 2016-08-09 at 8.24.24 PM

I totally forgot to take any photos when we were on the single track trails through the Teton National Park (forehead slap). But, this is pretty wonderful, too!

Screen Shot 2016-08-09 at 8.24.47 PM

I was in the rear for a while. I held back so I could take photos (finally).

This is heading back into the Ranch. All glorious.

MORE PHOTOS!

A TIDBIT about the ranch… So I love my horse, Petunia, but I’m having gear issues with the saddle.  After shortening and lengthening the stirrups, I asked about changing it out.  The Wrangler told me that they generally give guests the same saddle that they have had in previous years… so if it didn’t bother me last year, it is curious why it bothers me this year… I asked them to check to make sure I’d had this saddle previously.  They did.  I had.  So we concluded that my fabulous new sheepie is too thick and throws off my leg and seat.  Tomorrow we will try the saddle without the sheepie and see how it feels.  And, if after that I still want to change out the saddle, I can.

Anyway, a nice tidbit on how the R Lazy S takes care of their guests…

Hubby wanted me to take a photo of him on Cochise but we were already back at camp so all Cochise wanted to do was go in and rest/eat/buddy up with his friends. Not a good shot, really.

Sweet Petunia wants me to rub her face after every ride, which I do…

A failed Barnie.

Another failed Barnie but I giggled when I saw it and thought you might, too. It looks like I’m hiding under her face or something. My arms are too short for Barnies…
