Once the ligament is over stretched, it cannot retract. This damages many young horses started with rollkur.

Personally I hate all this new fangled head lowered to the ground. More so in Western riding. They call it relaxed and submissive. I hate it. For the rider I feel like Im ready to topple over the front of my horse. To me the normal stance is the natural way for a horse to carry his head and neck for general riding especially. Maybe in the show ring the flexed neck is used a bit more often. But I feel my horse and I are one combined and comfortable unit when the horse carries himself in normal stance. Far too much messing around trying to teach horses to do unnatural actions. Im the old school from the 1950’s and 1960’s. and will carry on that way and wont cause my horse any undue pain or stress making him do something thats not at all natural.
