A reader from South Africa often sends to me the most interesting articles… I love receiving information from another culture on the other side of the world – as I now it, anyway.
Yesterday, she sent to me a fascinating photo journal of the Eagle Hunters. She based my interest on a Saturday Phoblog photo I had used previously.
WHO ARE THESE EAGLE HUNTERS?
According to Mr. Wikipedia:
There are an estimated 250 eagle hunters in the Western Mongolian province. Their falconry custom, so-called ‘horse-riding eagle falconry’, is unique in practice only with trained Golden Eagle (Aquila chrysaetos daphanea) on horseback. Their hunting target is almost limited to Red Fox (Vulpes vulpes) or Corsac Fox (Vulpes corsac). In the first week of October, 70 eagle hunters gather for the annual Golden Eagle Festival of Mongolia. They use eagles to hunt foxes and hare during the cold winter months when it is easier to see the gold colored foxes against the snow.
INCREDIBLE PHOTO JOURNAL of the EAGLE HUNTER MIGRATION!
So, this is the photo journal she sent to me and it is incredible! How other cultures develop is so fascinating… how they treat their animals…

Beautiful photos, but … poor foxes, being killed whilst trying to survive the winter, just to ‘adorn’ his summer home.
