It has been a long time since I’ve shined a light on the Prisoner Trained BLM Mustang Saddle Horse Adoption Program.
I adopted Rojo from this program and you all know how much I love him! (You can read his adoption story here. You can read about us learning together – until LYME hit me – here.)
So today is the day to write about the WONDERFUL program (helps both the captive human and captive horse – learn).
Hopefully a few of you will attend/purchase!
MY FAV: For this adoption, I think my fav would be Handsome Ransom (or Bones). I like the small ones who are willing and ready!
AND THE BEST THING…
For me, the best thing (besides getting these lovely wild beings out of there) is that these inmates work with these horses for 8 hours a day, 5 days a week for at least 90 days. How many trainers do that?! You receive a horse that is started very consistently with amazing supervision – making sure the relationship is key, for both the inmate and the horse.
*What I find interesting on this particular adoption is that some of the horses were FACILITY BORN. That was new to me. Those born at the prison individuals have the Mustang bloodline but none of the wild experience. Nature vs. Nurture… interesting.
