A while back, a reader sent this book, The Private Passion of Jackie Kennedy Onassis – Portrait of a Rider by Vicky Moon, to me telling me that she knows every photo by heart and simply loves all the images and the sentiments within.
I agreed.
For me, I found the photos of the Kennedy children, especially Caroline, frolicking on the lawns/gardens with her ponies, especially heartwarming.
What a lovely era… what a great idea! Riding on the White House grounds… why not?!
I also found the 2nd half of the book very familiar. It tells of the horses Jackie enveloped while trying to heal. Actually, healing is a strong thread throughout this book… even as a child, Jackie’s pony, Buddy, was her best friend.
So nice to give horses credit…
Anyway, I wanted you all to see some of these charming photos that are inside this lovely coffee table book.

This is the lovely coffee table book that was sent to me from a reader who said it was her absolute favorite…
Next time, I’ll show you some of the photos of Jackie riding. She was something to behold in a saddle!

Kathleen: The photo credit says “Sardar” a gift horse. It wasn’t Black Jack. I can see who one might think that by this photo.
I have the book and I am so glad that you shared it with all of your readers on President’s Day. I enjoyed it and I think that Jackie’s love for horses helped her through the tough times in her life. Thanks for sharing it with others.
Is the last photo of Jackie and Carolyn with Blackjack, the cassion horse at JFK’s funeral? My father was operations officer for the funeral. I used to regularly visit Blackjack as a child. I can’t make up my mind if it’s him in the photo.
Could you please post an update on Bella, and maybe a reminder to folks to continue to help her out by donating.
