A few weeks ago I told you about a great horse lover book called (interestingly enough), THE HORSE LOVER by H. Alan Day.
You can read my review of THE HORSE LOVER here.
In short, H. Alan Day was the first person to be awarded 1500 deemed ‘unadoptable’ BLM Mustangs for safekeeping and care. This was back in 1989.
Can you imagine? 1500 horses at once?!
The man was a Pioneer on a journey of discovery and engineering that was before its time…
Why?
Day was able to train this immense and thundering herd to follow him (imagine the sound of that…) from pasture to pasture so that he could use Timed Grazing techniques. At the same time, while grazing cattle and horses, Day increased the land’s hay production by 250% using timed grazing and seed science.
After 4 years, the land was healthier than when it all began.
Remarkable, really.
This book, The Horse Lover, is Day’s account of this prolific and rewarding time in his life, working with 1500 horses – as well as an account of what the horse has meant to Day throughout his life. The stories inside are so visible and tactile and real – imagine living with 1500 horses!
I loved the book.
