Who knew that SQUARE DANCING would be a HIGHLIGHT of our trip?!

Yes, to be fair, the horse riding and the spectacular views were the ultimate highlights of this excursion to the R Lazy S Ranch

…But…

I had NO IDEA how much fun we’d have Square Dancing!

OMG!  We giggled like hyenas and had grins from ear to ear – everyone did!

This was only one square... there were 3 others, all crammed in on the deck - and all laughing hysterically... You can see in this picture, we have one couple promenading and another couple of teenage girls dancing together and messing up on the arm placement thing...

SQUARE DANCING.

Alright, so – …

Every day has some type of activity that you can join or not join.  One day they went to the Rodeo for the kids.  Another day, we went to a private studio tour of a local bronze artist.  We’ve had cookouts, gymkhana, nature walks, river rafting, fly fishing, horse tag… you name it, we’ve probably had an opportunity to do it.

However…

The most fun Hubby and I have had outside of riding, was the Square Dancing.

Hands down.

What was surprising was that we didn’t think we were going to like it.  In fact, we thought about skipping the after-dinner event all together.    But, as we saw the equipment coming in and we participated in the set-up (moving the tables off of the deck…), we kinda got roped into it.

Well, not really… actually, it started to look like it might be fun!  So, when the caller asked for his first square of 4 couples, I hopped up and dragged Hubby with me.  Shortly thereafter, there were 4 squares of 4 couples each.  Everyone else – and I mean EVERY ONE ELSE was sitting around, watching.   I don’t think there was one guest who wasn’t in attendance.  Even the kids were either dancing or watching.

I forget what you call this, but the men had to get in the middle and go around...
I forget what you call this, but the men had to get in the middle and go around…  Yes, the one teenage girl was playing the ‘boy’ role.

AND THEN THE MUSIC BEGAN!

As all of us were giddy and waiting, the Caller gave us simple instruction on how to square dance.  He taught us to all move to the right, how to alemande left, how to find our ‘corners’, doesey doe, right and left grand, promenade… We had that down.

Then, he turned on the music and we had to listen to him, do what he said correctly and speed it all up.

OMG.  We were all laughing and giggling!  64 hysterical dancers, trying their hardest to be the best square!  The guests on the outside were just as silly, all taking videos and cheering us on!

Hubby was very good.  I think he only made one mistake the entire dance!  I, on the other hand, tended to not put my hand in the right spot for the promenade part.  But otherwise, I was OK.  But, it didn’t matter.  The most fun part was when someone in your square was completely lost and flailing.  We were all in total joy – swear to HorseGods.

Who knew?!

As the sun went down, we were still Square Dancing! The entire deck was full of twinkletoed guests!

OTHER HIGHLIGHTS OF THE DAY IN PHOTOGRAPHS

The weather was beautiful so a few kids were basking in the sun while waiting for their morning ride.
