It’s a Mustang Thang… Do it because it is a Good Thing to do. And, a few updates!

Helloooo!

It is Friday which means tomorrow is Saturday!  I know many of you are happy to be almost kissing the weekend!

Let’s talk about some good news, some expectations and an inventive and fun way to help the Mustangs…

LEROY, THE WONDERPONY UPDATE!

For those of you who haven’t read about LeRoy, his story is linked here.  In short, this little guy was found wandering around a Home Depot parking lot with a broken back leg that had healed over badly.

It sure sounds like he is going to be better healed than anyone ever expected!  I was told he would have to wear a corrective shoe for his whole life.   But today things are looking very bright for LeRoy!  He may be able to ditch the shoe!   Wahoo!  I love that these wonderful veterinarians took a chance on LeRoy and he proved them right – way beyond their expectations!

I don’t have a recent photo yet, but I did get the University of Wisconsin School of Veterinary Medicine report.  I have a photo of the actual paragraph of the report that states his condition.  It is tough to read so I have typed it out below.

LeRoy's medical report summary

“Leroy is showing incredible progress in his recovery. He is walking more soundly than he ever has before and appears to have gained a significant amount of strength in the left hindlimb, such that the heel extension shoe can be shortened, and may eventually prove unnecessary. Radiographs were obtained as an effort to document his case thoroughly and sow a small improvement in bone deposition, particularly around the heads of the screws where there had been some lysis. This is interpreted as the fracture becoming increasingly stable over time.

At this time, Leroy needs no further coaplation of the limb or any exercise restrictions. He should receive regular hoof care with the farrier, at this time, the special shoe he has on is still necessary, but if he continues to grow stronger, he may not need it at some point in the future. Please call any time you have any questions or concerns about him; he’s a truly fantastic patient!”

Nice.

THE JUNKYARD 4

These are the horses who were rescued from horrible conditions in a Junkyard.

They are:

1)  Pregnant, horribly skinny, malnourished mini-mare, Glory:

Glory is ready to pop!  She is on Marestare at this link.  And, there is a thread of people watching her on Marestare linked here.

2&3)  Skinny, malnourished and ill minis, Tucker and Red:

Both have been adopted TOGETHER to a farm which is only about an hour away from BHFER!  Theresa can keep tabs on them and report to us occasionally.

4)  Skinny, malnourished pregnant Percheron, Faith.

They think she is ready any day now…  Theresa says that Faith is a beautiful mare and very, very sweet.

LIttle Red and Tiny Tucker have been adopted together! Yay! And only about an hour away from BHFER

Faith the Percheron (left) is very pregnant and very sweet.

Gory is in the barn and on Marestare! She is about to POP!

This is a shot of Glory on Marestare. She is the dark figure in the lower left corner... Click here to get a better view!

A GREAT IDEA TO HELP THE MUSTANGS THAT IS FUN, TOO!!!  THE ‘ACTHA RIDE FOR THE MUSTANGS’.

I love this idea.

ACTHA (American Competitive Trail Horse Association) is hosting a Trailride – all over the USA – on one day (June 4, 2011).   The proceeds (100% of all earnings!) will go to the Mustang Heritage Fund which creates programs, marketing and funding to promote adoptions of the 40,000 Mustangs in holding pens across the USA.

On June 4th, there will be several Trailrides happening all over the US at once!  Here is how it works…

To HOST a ride in your area, you must have access to at least 6 miles of riding trails.  If you host a ride, you receive a lovely belt buckle shown below.

To RIDE in the trailrides, you must go to this website and check out the rides in your state.

THIS IS A GREAT IDEA!  Please check it out and have fun while helping our Mustangs!

Some of the rides! This could set a record!
