How to Create an equine PASTURE PARADISE on very small acreage!

How could this novel concept of an Equine Pasture Paradise on very small acreage be possible?  How can you always have grass for your horses AND keep them on pasture?  Not only that… how about tending to your horses’ minds?  Giving them watering holes, hills to climb, alleys to run, places to sunbathe, places to shelter, ample shade, abundant slow feeders and various feeds… all with minimum acreage!  How is this possible?

For me, I love this entire idea because it lends itself to timed grazing and equine contentment.

8 ICELANDIC HORSES ON 2.5 ACRES!

The video poject I watched, On the Right Track by Gydjulind (linked here), was created for 8 Icys on 2.5 acres.  But, you could use this concept on any acreage!

Just because Icys are smaller, doesn’t mean the ideas aren’t comparable to any other kind of horses.  The well considered ideas are universal to any sized horses and very easy to follow.  And, not difficult to construct at all!

I think all of us could benefit from watching this video.  You’ll see how to simply reorganize your acreage to potentially incorporate many of their ideas as well as some of your own.  I know Gydjulind inspired me to think outside the normal paddock box!

For me, the only part that I didn’t have at my disposal was ample water (for irrigation).  Other than that, I could reasonably make all of the concepts work on my property, with a little help from Hubby and a tractor.

HERE WE GO!

I took many screen grabs from the video, but you should really watch it yourselves to grab onto the ideas and understand how the horses use the ample space.  Truly, you cannot see their constant migrations by viewing these stills.  It is much better to watch the video.

PHOTOS OF THE HORSES IN THIS ENVIRONMENT

The video is 30 minutes long but it goes by quickly.  I grabbed several shots, showing the horses doing what was intended for them to do – have fun and be horses!

Hi I am just wondering how this concept would work in the winter. ATM we bring ours in and they have a small area to stand and walk around on with stables for shelter. They use this for approx 6 months of the year due to very wet heavy clay ground. How would a track system work during these wet winter months?

Thank you for sharing this video. It is inspiring to me just at this time. This is great because the horses can entertain themselves. I will definitely plan on such a set up.
