I feel very fortunate that we are safe from fire right now.
But all of us in California have that feeling, “There but for the grace of God, go I…”. We all know it could be us. And I think this knowing… this knowing that we have no water and that everything is a tinderbox – has made us band together.
There but for the grace of God, go I.
HEARTWARMING STORIES DURING THIS DISASTER.
Today, I wanted to bring to you some of the heartwarming human stories as well as the mostly untold animal stories.
When so often we hear of animal abuses, it is these horrible times that we find such lovely human gestures towards animals.
THE FIRES
Horrible. Fast. Not like any fires previous. The land is so dry, it is like a tinderbox.

These goats were freed by firefighters. The fires are moving so fast, people are running for their lives and most cannot care for their animals.
THE HELPERS
The fires are all over the state, but mostly in rural areas. Luckily, these rural areas are surrounded by affluent wine country and other Bay Area offshoots. And they’ve rallied. Big time.
There are FB pages organizing volunteers and drop off points for supplies.
There are FB pages for animals and animal owners to reunite. And another one in Napa…
There are FB pages for people with trailers, stables, paddocks – any animal temporary housing.
HERE ARE SOME OF THE HOPEFUL POSTS ON THESE PAGES…
SOME OF THE SUPPLIES DROPPED OFF – AND THE LOCAL FAIRGROUNDS

This photo speaks volumes to me… You can see, they raced out of their home with their dogs and that’s about it. Look at those faces…
A VERY HELPFUL POSTER FROM UC DAVIS: EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS,DEVELOP YOUR DISASTER PLAN
This wonderful barn poster came into my inbox today – from UC Davis. Very timely.
