It was created by Horsefly Films Jen Miller & Sophie Pegrum who won BEST DOCUMENTARY last year at this same festival for “Path to Glory, the Rise and Rise of the Polish Arabian Horse.”
You need to see this.
WHY WATCH THIS FILM?
You know how sad and disappointed we are – often – over the mistreatment of our horses? Well, this is an insightful, beautifully integrated, perfectly paced and easy to understand FEEL GOOD documentary about the Regeneration of the extinct Tarpan horse of Europe.
Yup. That’s what I said… the genetic (almost) resurrection of the extinct Tarpan. 96% original genetics, as far as they can tell.
Very, very powerful… and very very hopeful for those breeds who we know are almost gone.
AND, OH YEAH, A REMINDER TO NOT RUN THE NEARLY EXTINCT BREED OFF A CLIFF…
That is exactly what happened to the last Tarpan. The last wild mare was being chased by humans for capture (they knew she was the last) and instead, to avoid capture, she flung herself off of a cliff.
Oy. Unbelievable. I’m sure that took some explaining back at the office…
To this point, I feel it is always good to shine a bright light on Man-made Extinction. It seems silly that we run to the rescue when we know it is almost too late….
This film helps us to remember to NOT wait until it is too late. And, it also fills us with hope for the near extinct breeds. This resurrection is incredible, really.

The Equus Film Festival (#EFFNY) is coming to New York City on Friday, November 21st and Saturday, November 22nd to highlight and award the diverse and creative efforts of those in film and advertising, who artistically pay homage to the horse through media.
This is the first film festival oriented around equestrian themed content from around the world. The films and commercial content show the rich history and diverse tapestry of the horse in human culture. The festival will feature more than 50 films and creative works running across three separate screens.
