A brief but lovely update with Cream Puff!

Cream Puff is the first horse we saved using the Keep Them Off of the Truck Fund!

Below are her first photos when she was in the ‘direct to ship’ pen and the following day after she was rescued.  I’m not sure why she was in the direct to ship pen.  She was skinny with bad feet,  but that’s about it.  She wasn’t sick.

*The ‘direct to ship’ pen is where the horses are not even run through the auction; they are instead just purchased by their weight, put in the pen and loaded onto the slaughter trucks.  Usually the horses in this pen are sick or injured or skinny and they wouldn’t have any chance of being purchased by anyone in the auction.  They have no value other than their meat cost.

All Seated in a Barn found Cream Puff in the straight to ship kill pen. They desperately called and asked if we could help rescue Cream Puff as she would load in the morning.  We said, YES!

And thanks to you, we were able to save Cream Puff!

This is Cream Pull when she was in the kill pen and the next day after being saved. She was counted to be loaded on the truck the next morning.

CREAM PUFF NOW!  … a few weeks later.

Cream Puff has made it through quarantine and spent some time in the equine hospital in Texas.  The vets couldn’t find anything wrong with her besides long feet, starvation and neglect.  The vets said she was approximately 10 years-old and that her feet should be able to be rehabbed with several trims.

Cream Puff was brought from Texas to California last week… and today, Cream Pull had a lovely spa day at ASIAB.

isn’t she pretty?!  And she looks so proud!!

THANK YOU ALL for helping save this lovely mare who has years of life left – thanks to YOU!

GREAT NEWS! The Keep Them Off the Truck Fund saved another slaughter bound horse! MEET SURSHA!

On St. Patrick’s Day, I got a call about a truck leaving Texas with 50 horses packed inside.  The seller was asking $780 per horse and all monies had to be transacted within hours.

We had enough in The Fund to save one.  ASIAB raised money overnight to save another two.  So, three horses, the last to be loaded but first off the truck, were saved.

Literally, they took the first three horses by the back door of the truck.

Below is the mare we saved.  Her name is Sursha, which means “Liberty” in Gaelic, perfect for being saved on ST. Patrick’s Day.

Sursha is in quarantine right now in Texas.  We don’t know her age or ailments.  All we know is that she is safe – and not showing any signs of illness presently.  After her two week QT stay, Sursha will visit the vet who will draw blood and determine her needs.  (Clearly she needs a trim, some quality food and TLC.)

Thank you all for donating to the Keep Them Off the Truck Fund.   We cannot save them all, but for the one we saved, it means the world.

Meet Sursha.  You saved her.
