My heart is all dancy in anticipation… so let’s watch this dance video!!

I am so excited and anxious, I don’t know how I will sleep tonight…

You see, I’ve been on a puppy search for a while now, as you might know.

Since none of the local rescues would comment on my applications (long story but I am guessing it is because I won’t crate my dogs, I sometimes work all day away from the house and I put them in the barn when we are not home overnight – with a house sitter), I started to ask my friends in other counties if they could find a pup.

Many of you readers have sent out-of-state dogs who need homes.  Thank you.  All of those photos broke my heart.

One of you sent a video of Rosie and her pups!  I loved it!  Rosie is an amazing dog with heart, smarts and soul – and she was in California.  I called Hope for Paws. They are the Rescue that was able to befriend her.

The Hope for Paws people were very kind and referred me to the Rescue that was fostering Rosie. They wished me luck and emailed twice to offer support and tell me about other large pups that might work out for me.

Nice people.

The foster that had Rosie thought I would be a great home for Rosie and offered her to me!  I was so excited!  But then zi found out she couldn’t be secure around cats – or at least they weren’t sure.

Sadly, that couldn’t work out… since I have 7 barn cats who I love.

I’m not sure if she still needs a home but I think she is an amazing dog…  Here is the website to inquire about her.

So, I then asked Rosie’s kind foster mom about Rosie’s puppies that were now at another shelter. She said she would happily forward my application.

She did.

No response.  Rosie’s foster even emailed again to see if I had heard anything.

I hadn’t.

Clearly, I am very bad at filling out applications.  Or something.  Either they love me (like Hope for Paws or Rosie’s foster) or they won’t even pick up the phone.  I really tried on this one.  I sent photos of the place and of Nomar and Nadia…

Nothing.

Dunno.

These are Rosie's puppies. So dang cute! I inquired about them and had no response even with the support of Rosie's rescuer and Rosie's foster home. Hmmmm. Click to watch a video of Rosie's pups!

Then a puppy appeared in my inbox from Candi Cane Cooper – the animal communicator.  She had heard of this pup from one of her friends.

I called on this pup, Snoopy, but her foster said she is going to a ‘puppy fair’ this weekend and I will not have time to go to LA to meet her before that…

This is Snoopy. She is in LA.

This is Snoopy. She is in LA.

But the good news, maybe, is that during that phone conversation with Snoopy’s rescuer (I was parked in a city parking garage at the time) the rescuer told me that she goes to local ASPCA shelters and just does what she can…

As I drove off from the garage, I saw a sign for Sacramento’s ASPCA – the local to Sacramento shelter.

Hmmm.

Harbinger?  I had driven this road several times and had never noticed the sign.

So, I drove home and immediately visited the shelter’s website and started looking online.

And I saw three pups that were young and going to be large.

THREE!

These are the three pups I saw online that are in the sort-of local shelter about an hour and a half away from me. THREE LARGE PUPPIES. YAHHOO! I'm going there tomorrow.

I called the shelter at 5:29pm.  They closed at 5:30.

I asked if the three were still there.  He said, “Yes but I cannot guarantee any of them will be here when you get here tomorrow.”

My heart seized.

Gulp.

“What is meant to be, will be…,” I told myself unconvincingly.

“Yes, I understand,” I said to the kind voice on the phone.  I will drive down from Grass Valley and be there tomorrow afternoon.

This one looks a lot like sweet Atticus. I know I shouldn't get all excited before meeting her or even knowing if she is available - just because she looks like him. But she does and I am very anxious to meet her - if she is still there.

I knew I wouldn’t be able to get to the shelter until around 2:30 tomorrow, several hours after they were open.  Anything could happen for these pups during that time – and nothing could happen.

I was wishing I would have just driven there when I saw the sign this afternoon – even if I was in my good clothes and driving the wrong car…

And then, I remembered a friend of a work friend who said she had a friend who volunteered at that exact shelter.

So, I emailed my friend who emailed her friend who emailed her friend.

The volunteer friend couldn’t help me tonight, but was going to be there tomorrow, if I could get down there.  I said I would be there around 2:30 tomorrow, Valentine’s Day.

I was so kicking myself that I didn’t just drive there when I had the initial idea.  Then I wouldn’t be going through this angst tonight…

See… fear sucks.  I shudda just gone – and not cowered under the safe cloak of the internet.

Anyway.

Now I wait.  Wondering if I have found my next pup or if it will be another exercise in ‘close but not close enough…’

I’m excited and anxious and anxious and excited.

So…. Why don’t we all watch this really fun and creative dance video using all sorts of dance clips to a single piece of music.  Very fun!

(As a side note, another great thing about the people at Equion, they send out fun clips like this every now and then… )
