I don’t really like to post a lot of rescue stuff because this isn’t a rescue blog.
HOWEVER, certain things really get my goat and this is one of them. (Actually, all horror stories involving animals make me crazy…) I hate it when people who have the ability and should know better, do nothing. This mare was rescued off of a “popular in the community” type person who has 30 horses on the premises including a breeding stallion business with broodmares. Hmmmmmm.
Not that I excuse people that have no money or that don’t know what to do about an injury; but I can understand it to a degree. However, in my opinion, there is always something you can do… I mean pull up your bootstraps, swallow your pride and step forward to ask for help unless you yourself are incapacitated or trapped under a large piece of furniture. Somewhere, someone will know something and it will be a start. But, what really gets me is to be “popular in the community” and still do nothing. This makes me want to go over there and glue all their doors shut. After all, being “popular in the community” makes me believe that you know a few people and someone could have helped here. In this case, pardon my frankness, this person just didn’t give a rip. That is what makes me very, very upset. To me, if you let a horse stand around outside for 30 days with this kind of injury, YOU should stand around outside for 30 days with that kind of an injury. (I’ll help creating the injury…)
So, here is the story but first the pictures. As you can see in this one photo, the mare has a leg injury clear to the bone. And, in the following photo you can see that this mare was finally helped and brought to the vet’s for treatment. However, that is only a tidbit of the story. If you want more pics, here is the link. Also, there is a video in page 2 of that link that shows the mare being walked to the trailer before treatment. She has enough bute and banamine to sedate a Rhino yet she is still very owey. It is so touching and sad…
Now, the story. I will reduce it to a few sentences and then add the comments from ENDRS (501 (c) 3).
Yesterday, I wrote about a happy story with a draft horse that was rescued from ENDRS who likes to sit on his haunches. That was a nice and happy story. As I was researching ENDRS, I ran across their need for donations on a rescue board. ENDRS again… Hmmmm. So, I clicked on it and saw these horrible photos. Evidently, ENDRS got a call from the Humane Society asking them to help with this mare they were going to seize. So, ENDRS went out there and took all of the linked photos, loaded her up with painkillers and then trailered her directly to their vet.
Of course, since ENDRS was on the premises with the mare, they saw the 30 other horses, the stallion and the owner. The owner said that the mare got her foot caught in a pipe fence over 30 days ago… Hmmmm. I guess no one wanted to piss her off so they didn’t ask the obvious, “WTH, didn’t you get help for this poor mare?!”. It is a good thing I don’t do these types of rescues… I’d be rabid by the time I found the owner… Anyway, the vet thinks this is more of a barbed wire injury than a pipe fence. Yup.
So, the mare was brought to the vet, the vet worked on her for three hours, then ENDRS brought her back to rehab her. Only a week has passed so far. This lucky mare, now named Anastacia, is in good hands and seems to be turning around because she has started to “show an opinion” — she doesn’t want to be caught. Can you blame her? Anyway, the vet office is taking donations to help pay her ongoing medical bills. If you’d like to donate or read more, the information is in the next graph.
I’ll keep you updated.
Hi Friends,
Yesterday,ENDRS seized a paint mare on behalf of the Humane Society of the Ozarks. She has been suffering from medical neglect of wounds extending to the bone “for a long time” according to ENDRS vet.
Please donate what you can to the Humane Society of the Ozarks (http://www.hsozarks.com/) for her initial vet bill. We hauled her to the vet yesterday after we seized her. It was an emergency call so I am not sure what the bill will be but I feel certain it will be somewhere around $800 – $1,000.
Her treatment included xrays of front hooves b/c she had at least an inch worth of laminitic rings and she could barely walk. The vet said we needed to know if she had foundered from the pain and problems with properly bearing weight. His recommendation was to euthanize her if her coffin bone had rotated. The xrays revealed no rotation and the exposed bone showed no evidence of osteomyelitis (tough little mare!). He surgical debrided the wounds, gave IV sedation, antibiotics, fluids, tetanus antitoxin, coggins, and sent me home with IV gentamycin, IM pen g, tucoprim, high powered probiotics, IV bute, banamine, bute tabs and topical wound medications. He spent over 3 hours working on her.
This is only the second horse the Humane Society of the Ozarks has helped. Mac was the first. Your donations will first and foremost help this little paint mare but second, they will show HSO that there is public support for neglected horses.
I would like to raise $1,000 for the Humane Society of the Ozarks on behalf of this little paint mare. Below is the Photobucket I started for her. There are pics of us picking her up, at the vet and then safely tucked in at ENDRS. There is a video of her walking to the trailer. We gave her 10 ml of IV Banamine & a medium dose of ace promazine before we loaded her. She was still sore after that much Banamine & sedation!!

PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU DESIGNATE YOUR DONATION FOR: “SEIZED PAINT MARE”
So, three cheers for all of you horsey angels that help these poor guys when no one that should be helping them is helping them. In this case, the horsey angel is ENDRS and all of their supporters.
Hooray for the good guys!

How about we let them rescue the horse and you and I take care of the stuipd owners? Punishment should fit the crime.
