MAMA TESS UPDATE: THE FOUNDER WARRIOR CAME OUT TODAY!

Tuesday, March 11th, 2014 | Filed under Mama Tess

Our girl has a hole in her left foot, the size of Philadelphia.

Yet, she’s pretty darn sound on it!

I swear… she stood on that compromised foot while we trimmed the right – she stood on it like a champ!

A-Mazing.

This girl is amazing…

This is the topside view of the surgery site today. It is healing! And, her hoofwall has grown all around and down. You can see that her upwardly trimmed toe is now no longer upward - it has grown.

THE SURGERY SITE IS HEALING!

From what we can see with our plain eyes – no exact measuring (we have to work fast…), clearly the hole is lower on her hoof wall.  That means she is growing hoof wall!  Yes!

We were worried that there had been too much damage to the front of her hoof at the coronet band for her to grow hoof wall there.   I had been told previously that she had no blood flow due to her sinking and rotating.

But, alas, MT is growing hoof wall all over – including the worst spot!  (Amen to THERAPLATE and Enzion Hoof Supplement – no affiliation with either company.)

And, happily, we had to trim off a bunch of toe.  This means, again, that the hoof wall is growing downward.

Sigh of relief!

Yes, this pic is fuzzy. We were working fast. But, you can see that she took off all of that extra toe on the left, below her surgery site.

TONS OF SOLE AGAIN ON BOTH FRONT FEET!

Tess continues to grow ample sole as well…  (Thank you Theraplate.)

In the two weeks since the Founder Warrior was last here, we had to trim way more than usual off of her sole.  This girl has tremendous sole growth – and I do attribute all of that to the hyper circulation created by her Theraplate that she rides 3 times a day – without fail.

This is the almost normal looking sole (normal for her...) on the left. Yes, there is an enormous hole... but she has ample sole and a frog!

RIGHT FRONT MYSTERY SORENESS

The right front, however, has a mystery soreness all of a sudden.  It isn’t acute… but it is there.  She could stand on her left foot longer than her right – which was slightly alarming.

So, we dug out around the serum pocket we found last week.  There seemed to be nothing.

We used hoof testers and – nothing.

Next we took Xrays and saw nothing conclusive.

We rinsed it with Betadine and wrapped it using Koppertox and colloidal silver.

So, we wait…

MT was such a good girl today. No fussing at all. She did everything she was asked and then some. Such a good girl. Her left (the bad foot with the surgery site and the huge hole) was actually stronger and feeling better than her right today.

IN THE MEANTIME

Just to be safe, I said a quick prayer to the HorseGods and told them that it was time to quit futzing with MT – with the right foot shenanigans – and just let her get on with healing herself.

I also went to St. Francy’s FB page and called upon her to work her magic and clear the path for MT’s healing.

Enough is enough.

And, as for MT, she was thrilled that we were so happy with her behavior today.  She was a very good girl and we told her so.

MT licked, chewed and got that devilish flirty twinkle in her eye – and then went about finding her dinner that we had placed in different parts of the barn.

She was very proud of herself.  It is as if she knew she has been doing a great job healing herself…

Twinkly, sparkly, happy and dappled.

To the ends of the earth and back, my girl.  Whatever it takes.  I’m here with you.

This is one of her flirty, "Can I have more dinner? Puleeeze" looks...
