I received a call last week from ASIAB. They were in Texas at the kill auction, trying to save as many as possible. (Thank horsegods for those who can actually go to a kill lot and make those choices… .)
They asked if our KEEP THEM OFF THE TRUCK FUND had enough donations to rescue a pinto baby who was in the ‘straight to slaughter’ pen. I said, “OF COURSE!”.
Thanks to you all, Baby Fred has made a soft landing. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU.

BABY FRED in the kill pen. He had 3 auction tags on his rump.
HIS STORY
All we know is that he had 3 auction tags on his rump. That means that he had already been run through three auctions. He was either purchased three times or traded three times… This poor baby had been worked-over and stuck with too many bigger horses in stressful conditions. It is a marvel that he came through all of that without major damage. He is skinny and wormy, but other than that, the vet said he is fairly healthy! Probably 9-10 months old.
Right now, Baby Fred is in quarantine. However, the girls gave him a makeover!
It is hard to believe that this pretty boy wasn’t adopted into a family. Instead, he was traded three times and AFTER ENOUGH MONEY WAS MADE ON HIM, he was stuck in the straight to slaughter pen.
Humans can be so awful – like putting Fred in the slaughter pipeline… and they can be SO GOOD – like saving Baby Fred.
Hopefully, he will regain all of his vigor and be adopted to a loving family very soon.
THANK YOU ALL!!!!
