Have you all heard about the solicitation – it has been in the news here out west:
BLM seeks bids for new off-range pastures for wild horses and burros
I’d like to break it down for those of you who have large parcels of land and need grazers. Yes, the BLM will pay per head… and will potentially pay for hay during the winter months, but they don’t set the price, you do. So either they accept, or they don’t. You are essentially bidding for the opportunity.
“The applicant must submit a business plan that supports the dollar amount needed per head/day to conduct business with the government. The bid should include the percentage of profit the contractor is seeking. The BLM cannot provide a suggested rate.”
First and foremost, your land will need to be qualified by an agency to determine how many animals it can sustain. Your grassy parcel must be large and robust enough for 200-5000 animals…
If you are ready to move onward, here is what you do:
HOW TO FIND THE SOLICITATION FROM THE BLM

1 – There are retired federal contractors who help lay people fill out these solicitation for free. You can find them here.
HOW DO I HAVE MY LAND EVALUATED?
Tip #2: There are organizations that evaluate your land – some do it for free. Here is a link.
