It is nursemare foal season again… If you are unfamiliar with the term ‘nurse mare foal’, please scroll down and I have the explanation. Basically, nurse mares are needed … so their original babies are discarded in order for the more quality baby to have a nurse mare while the quality foal’s dam is being rebred.
Regardless of the politics, there are many nursemare babies available during Spring.
Last Chance Corral is one of the Rescues that aids these babies. Here is their present foal crop. I’m sure more will arrive on their page this month.
LCC mentions “See me at Equine Affair”. That means that they have a booth at the Equine Affair in Columbus, Ohio April 12 – 15 where they will have some of these babies on view.
HERE ARE THE AVAILABLE FOALS!
WHAT IS A NURSE MARE FOAL?
WHAT IS A NURSE MARE FOAL?
A nurse mare foal is the by-product of creating a nurse mare. A nurse mare is an equine wet nurse. Nurse mares are needed to nurse foals who’s natural mother has been taken away to be re-bred. The newly orphaned “more valuable” foal is moved onto the nurse mare. The original foal of the nurse mare is outta luck.
PEOPLE SAY…
People say that this doesn’t happen. I think that argument would come as a surprise to the well established rescue facilities that take as many of these foals as they can afford — every foaling season.
Also, you might want to reconsider purchasing any ‘Cordovan Leather’ products…

Last Chance Corral is set up to take care of these often very sickly babies… who were snatched from their mothers at very, very young ages.
