I hadn’t heard of this story and I wanted to pass it on today so it could help wash away some of the despair from Yanaha’s case.
In a nutshell… Sam Simon, who co-founded THE SIMPSONS and has amassed a fortune from his talents, was diagnosed with terminal cancer in 2012.
His choice for his time left here on Earth is to do good. He wants to help others, including the animals.
Thank you, Sam Simon. A gilded chair next to St. Francis (along with legions of fuzzy paws and steady hooves) awaits you, I’m sure.
The story today is of Sam Simon’s decision to rescue a racehorse – who was continued to be raced even with a known injury.
Here is the original story from Anna Schecter.

Valediction, a thoroughbred racehorse, retired in Loudoun County, Va. Sam Simon, producer of ‘The Simpsons,’ ‘Cheers,’ and ‘The Drew Carey Show,’ among other series, is giving away his fortune before he dies of cancer. He secretly funded the ‘rescue’ of a racehorse, Valediction, that animal advocates say was on the verge of being raced again despite the risk of serious injury.
Bravo, Sam, Bravo.

I have been horse crazy my entire life. It sickness me that people like Asmussen exist and it thrills me that Sam Simon sweeps in to save the day! What a great ending! I am from Canada where horse slaughter is allowed but we also have organizations that desperately try to keep good, sound and forgotten horses out of the kill barns. Need you Now Equine advertises horses that have been purchased buy kill dealers at auction, but feel that the horse deserves a second chance. I purchased such a horse in April. The horse was In Ontario and I am in Northern Alberta, but something about this face made me act… No one else was interested in him, so I found a quarantine facility to keep him while I made arrangements for trucking. He arrived in May and have found him to be one of the best horses I know! Sweet, willing and has a ton of personality. And gorgeous! Not a regret in my mind after buying a horse from just a small video clip! I wish I could save them all, but I am happy that I could save my Remington Steele!
They talk about investigations but it seems its business as usual for Asmussion and all the others. Contempt for the very animals that provide them with an income.
