You might be wondering why I would start the blog with a lyric from a Lyle Lovett song… Well, it was running through my head during my paddle today, so it felt appropriate.
You see, It is my year anniversary of moving down here… and I was thinking… after the move and moving the horses, and fretting over/building horse areas and shelters and then creating the AirBnB and then the big job… Now that the heavy lifting is almost over…
… I thought that today, I might take the day and do something in my new town that was fun!
SO, I THOUGHT I’D RENT A KAYAK ON SANTA MARGARITA LAKE.
I love to kayak.
I thought I’d go to a kayaking lake around here.
Of course, there is the ocean very close – Morro Bay, Pismo Beach, Cayucos… Lots of ocean kayaking. But, I like lakes and rivers better – less chance of being eaten by a sea creature.
So, I found Santa Margarita Lake.
I remembered that when my friend, Kelley, took me riding in the hills above Santa Margarita Lake last year, there was hardly any water due to the drought. The Lake was sad looking, really.
Somehow, I had forgotten this. All I cared about during my kayaking lake research was whether they rented kayaks.
They did.
So, I went.
MY PHOTO JOURNAL OF MY DAY ON A KAYAK IN A LAKE…
The town of Santa Margarita is about 45 minutes from my house. The drive is gorgeous to get to Santa Margarita Lake.
All rolling hills with huge oak trees. Gorgeous.
Santa Margarita Lake is a reservoir – clean. And beautiful.
I had a glorious paddle, all by myself, all alone, on this full and amazing body of water. I felt like I had God with me on the boat… so incredible.
I STOPPED IN THE SWEET TOWN OF SANTA MARGARITA TO CHECK IT OUT…

Most places were closed because it was Tuesday… it seems that most of the little shops cater to the tourist crowd. This cute place looked yummy!
THIS IS HOW THE LAKE LOOKED IN 2015!!
I FEEL RECHARGED. LOVED IT. GOD’S COUNTRY.
