It is RAINING!!!! I cannot believe it! We are so lucky right now!
It is raining in Grass Valley, CA – and has rained on one of the horrible fires (Butte) in Northern CA! We are all rejoicing, for sure!

It continued to rain as I fed. Mama Tess wanted to eat with half of her body in the rain. The barn horses wanted to eat in the rain as well. I’m sure it felt good!!
FIRE NEWS
The Butte fire was rained upon! They now have 47% containment (72,000 acres burned – 408 structures lost)!
The Valley fire ( 70,000 acres burned, 585 homes lost) has not had any rain, but we are all mentally pushing it that way…
Here are the local fire reports today – which are much better than yesterday!
HOW TO HELP GET HAY TO THE OVER 200 LOOSE HORSES WHO HAVE BEEN FOUND AND ARE HOUSED AT THE FAIRGROUNDS!
I received the below report in my email box. I do know this rescue and I believe they are honest. They are right in the thick of the fire area and to the local fairgrounds.
Here is the direct link to their donation button to purchase hay for these horses. In CA, the hay is $20-$25/bale.
Hundreds Of Horses Have Been Saved
From The Lake County FiresNow They Need To Be Fed! |
![]() SERRA has already gone into action & sent two trailer laods of hay and other supplies to Napa (Calistoga) Fairgrounds & other locations where the evacuated horses are for now. Encouragingly, others have also started to give feed and other aid. But that is literally just a drop in the bucket. There are an estimated 200 horses now rescued with more coming in all the time.
There are of course other needs. But most urgent now is the feed and water. Please help SERRA buy more hay to get to the horses. It may be weeks before owners are able to get to their horses, so continued care, feeding and watering will be an ongoing need. To donate please Click HERE to go to our ‘Fire Feed’ Donation Page. We will continue to truck over feed and other supplies as we can. Working with other rescues, every dollar that is donated will go to the ongoing feed and care of these homeless horses. Thanks to one and all for your empathy and generosity. FURTHER HORSE SUPPLIES NEEDED for the #ValleyFire: Supplies are few!
