It is like a PROM DATE – will we DANCE WELL TOGETHER?!

Very quietly, I’ve been looking for an already-trained (or at least green broke) horse that picks up feet, loads and is mostly calm, regularly sound – that likes the trails.

I’ve asked my Morgan friends to keep an eye-out.  I’ve been lurking on mustang adoption pages and ghosting FB pages.  My secret searches narrowed to two Mustang Sanctuaries in CA that also have training programs.  Montgomery Creek Ranch in Northern CA (gorgeous place, great training program) and Sweetbeau Horses in Creston, CA  (30 mins from where I live – gorgeous place, great training program).

Well, the mustang I was looking towards at Montgomery Creek Ranch was adopted last week.

Yesterday, I went to Sweetbeau Mustangs to meet Dalton.

We played together for over 2 hours and then I watched their trainer ride him.

I liked him.  He is small, smart, responsive and very quiet.  He’s a mustang, so his conformation is a mixed bag… but he looks balanced.  His feet are good.

So, tomorrow is the big day – the prom date.  I’m going to ride him out on the trails there.

If we ride well together, I think it will be a match.

I will let you know what happens!

Thank you. He is not a Kiger, he is a Gila. I don’t know much about the herd yet, but I will!

How exciting for you Dawn! And i’m glad you’re considering a Mustang. My Mustang Bridger is the smartest horse, and super hardy. Dalton is gorgeous! Is he by chance a Kiger or from an area with Kiger Mustangs? His coloring reminds me of them, and I think I see some faint striping on his legs? I hope things work out for you too and I look forward to your next posting to find out!
