It is about as hot as it can get here… Walking outside feels like you’ve just opened the oven to check on a casserole. I swear.
This heat makes me very sad for my horses who, as you know, came from heat, but they came from heat that was ebbed by hundreds of trees. Now, as we all know, there are no trees. This makes me sad.
So, today I dug out an old “chik chik chik” type of sprinkler head and attached a hose. Either it was too old or I was too old – but in any case, I couldn’t get the ‘range’ adjusted. It spanned only a few feet before it reset. I figured that would still be OK. They would either use it, or be afraid of it.
PREVIOUS WATER EXPERIENCE
In the Grass Valley ranch, we had misters attached to the fences. I need to do that here… But anyway, Finn, BG and Rojo were the only horses who partook in the festivities. Finn loved the misters so much that he would hold his teeth over them (like a water pik) for hours on end. I’m sure his teeth and gums benefited greatly.
SO THIS TIME…
But a sprinkler head is different than misters. The water is more dense and more aggressive. And, it hits the dirt.
Perfect for dust baths!!
I’ll show you the photos…

Rojo manages to position himself just on the edge of the wet, but not touching it. Finn turns around so that his left side can get thwacked.

And as I was putting the sprinkler away, I found this baby orange on the orange tree! Wow! We really are in Central California! I cannot wait!
