Sunday is Funday and hopefully you have the time to watch this video of the behind the scenes during some of the Budweiser Clydesdale commercial – it shows how they are trained by Robin Wiltshire, their lead trainer, over the past 15 years.
For me, having been in this business for many years, I find the training fascinating. Usually, we just put out the Casting Call for a certain animal that can do blah blah… then we get bids from trainers. Once we hire an animal trailer who has the right looking animal and has instilled us with the most confidence in his abilities to train that animal, we simply wait until they show up on set – doing what we hired them to do.
I never get to see the actual training.
So, I loved this video…
Not just because of the training aspect, but because of the pride and the love.
These boys are so well turned out and so well loved – they just do it because their human asked them to.
Simple as that.
Listen for the trainer saying, “Beeeeeeeautifulllllll” and “Grrrreat boyyyyzzzz”….I love when he calls the particular horse out to do his thing… “Chrrrrrrisssssssssssss, Chris, Chris, Chrisssssss…..! Good Boy, Chris!”
Or when he simply yells, “Whhhheeeeeellllllll”, and they do the wheel – and stop exactly at the right time. Perfect.
I loved this and I think you will, too.

The big horse goes up and over… against green screen so they can input whatever background was necessary.
