Our February Bucket Fund was for Willow, Tom and Aurora – the three horses rescued from the deep mud, barbed wire, epic TICKS and being fed only rotten fruits and vegetables. You will remember these photos:

Our February Bucket Fund horses were starved, living in knee high muck, covered in ticks and only given rotten fruit and vegetables to eat! Click image to read their story and donate! THANK YOU! Here we see little Aurora and Willow.

STARVED, STANDING IN MUD AND BARBED WIRE, GIVEN ONLY FRUIT AND ROTTEN VEGETABLES TO EAT. This is Willow and Tom.
LUCKILY…
Willow and Aurora were placed together. It was touch and go for a long while with little Aurora (they removed over 871 ticks on her alone!) due to weakness in her back legs. They were very cow-hocked and underdeveloped. But Aurora has rallied and is now on the mend! Her muscles are responding and she can get up on her own easily now!
Willow needed much TLC. She had over 500 ticks removed and she was very, very thin with bad teeth and long hooves. Willow has received daily care and blossomed!
Tom is still at UC Davis. The poor guy was saved during his last hour. Tom has spent several weeks at UC Davis and he is still horribly thin. But, his bloodwork is good, so they hopeful that he will turn a corner. Tom has to gain enough weight for his cryptorchid surgery. He will remain at UC Davis until then.

Aurora is finally strong enough to act like a silly filly. Here she enjoys a mud bath – and she is able to get up without any aid! (I took this still off of a blurry video…)

Willow is finally on the mend. She had her teeth floated, her feet done and has recovered from all the blood sucking ticks! She is gaining weight and constantly watches over Aurora. They are not related.

Here is a photo taken of Tom today at UC Davis. (The weather was so bad, they took the photo inside.) You can see, he is still very thin. It is a mystery why he has difficulty gaining the weight – but they think he was just so far gone, it will take more time. His bloodwork is good. Tom will stay at UC Davis until he is strong enough to have his cryptorchid surgery.
