Can you believe that someone let this sweet as can be 17 year-old former schooling/teaching Irish Sport horse, well-trained, throw a rope over his neck and he’ll follow you…WITH THESE GROWTHS ON HIS FACE AND CHEST?! His new owner did nothing for him. So he was seized and sent to Animal Rescue Unit in Maine.
These tumors hurt. A lot. The one hanging from his chest is 2 pounds – it swings when he walks and tugs at his chest! Guinness can eat with that mass on his face, but it flops back and forth, which is very painful.

Guinness, a 17 year-old, very sweet, former schooling Irish Draught horse has two huge and operable tumors. Guinness’ most recent owner surrendered him.
DIAGNOSIS/PROGNOSIS – surgery will work!
Guinness was seized by the County Animal Control and released to the Animal Rescue Unit. Of course, Animal Rescue Unit immediately called the vet – who came out today. She examined and cleaned both tumors. After careful study, Guinness was diagnosed with Progressive Profound Pedunculate Melonoma which can be removed. Most often, the cancer is contained inside the tumor. It doesn’t spread into the body.
SO, if we can raise the deposit and hopefully the surgery funds, Guinness will be sent to the Myhre Clinic for surgery on Tuesday. I know it looks like cancer, and it could be… but the vets feel it is isolated. Guinness should be very happy afterwards!

This pic was taken after the vet cleaned the big tumor… It is 2 pounds and hurts when he walks – it rips at his chest wall as it swings…
HOW DID THIS HAPPEN?
Guinness’ long-term and very elderly owner placed him in good faith with a prominent, local horse owner. For some reason, this person did not tend to these tumors when they started. Guinness was recently seized in order to protect him.

His chin tumor, after being cleaned and observed. Guinness is a very sweet guy and gets along great with his pony friend.
WE CAN MAKE A HUGE DIFFERENCE TO THIS SUFFERING HORSE WHO HAS BEEN SUCH A TROOPER FOR HUMAN HIS ENTIRE LIFE!
Can we please help right this wrong? This poor horse has worked all his life, teaching humans how to ride. Please, let’s help get him out of pain and back in the arena! He is valuable in so many ways! Thank you in advance!
