DOES YOUR HORSE EVER JUST FEEL CRUMMY FOR NO REASON?…

OK, so… I’m coming down with Hubby’s Mancold.  Ugh.  Serves me right.

I feel like he felt, only I have stuff to do… and my Mother is in town.

So, in honor of my repressed mancold breakdown until my Mother leaves;  I am reposting this blog – about when horses get their Meh days, that we might not even notice.

ORIGINALLY POSTED 3/15/14

This morning, I woke up with a minor headcold… but I had an important meeting to attend so I got myself together and tried to appear healthy.

That just made it worse.  Right now, I feel like MEH.  My eyes are red and sore, my throat is sore, my chest is sore, my nose keeps running.

I’m not lethal SICK, but I am miserable.  On the outside, I think I was OK presentable to those who didn’t know me – which would be most people at this meeting.  But… their not knowing I was sick didn’t make my sick go away.  It was with me all day.  I’m sure I didn’t perform as well as I could have.

And now I’m just exhausted.  So, I’m posting this blog.  I thought it was appropriate and thought provoking.  How often are our horses having a MEH day… and we don’t recognize it?…

DOES YOUR HORSE EVER JUST FEEL CRUMMY FOR NO REASON?…

I feel sick.

I’m not getting a cold.  I’m not food poisoned.  I’m not limping.  I didn’t strain anything…

I just feel like crap.

I’m not sure why.

DOES YOUR HORSE FEEL CRUMMY?

I thought about reposting an old post for this blog today because I really don’t feel very clever or smart right now.

But then it occurred to me…

I bet that sometimes our horses must feel UGH, too, for no apparent reason…

You know what I mean?   The days when they cannot perform well or they don’t want you to mount or they have no energy…

I wonder if they are simply feeling crummy – like I am today.

Yet for a horse, he cannot tell you like I can tell you.

SKIP WORK?

I’m not saying that every horse that doesn’t let you mount or that acts pokey – is sick.

What I’m saying is that for me, right now, if anyone was to try to ride me – let’s say – it wouldn’t be pretty.

So…..

Perhaps, sometimes, our horses just feel crummy.

And maybe some days are just better left for the next.

Can we just do this tomorrow instead?

I think you are definitely on to something here! There is an occasional day when my sweet Arabian gelding just seems “out of sorts”. He’s fussy and uncooperative and has a leave me alone attitude. I don’t force him into doing anything on these days but next time, I’ll be sure to give him an extra hug and tell him that I understand.
Hope you are feeling better soon!

Horses are more intuitive and feeling than most other animals so it would make sense that they, like humans, are subject to good days and bad.

I have crummy days too and I have ALSO found out, that Libby has them too! When I want to ride, I never go out with the intention of riding. I go out to assess her to see if she is up to it. Then I ride. There has only been twice that I found her mood to be crummy, and so I just groomed her a lot and gave extra scritches, and just hung out. Sometimes that is what we all need the most.

Hope you feel better soon; it is raining here and a good day to stay inside, can see the horses are hanging in the shed, read a book and catch up on my DVR’d stuff.
