Last month, in honor of Mama Tess and old mares in general… the Bucket Fund benefited the elder ladies of The Golden Carrot: Lucy and Glory.
Well! You all were so lovely and generous to these old gals!

This is Glory… her feed were so bad when she arrived that this old girl spent too much time laying down… but now her feet are much better and she is a happy camper!
And, I have to say, it warmed my heart to send this very nice donation to these healthy old mares: Lucy and Glory – so that the rest of their lives may be more comfortable.
Here is a very grateful and heartfelt note from Casey of The Golden Carrot:
I’d like to say how grateful I am for the support for Lucy and Glory. I know a lot of people don’t like to support the older ones; or sanctuaries (so many have failed spectacularly, and all walk the line of hoarding). But these lovely mares, and all of our residents, deserve to be treated with love and respect, just as I would any elderly human being – who’d been there, and done that, who had raised a family, held a job, and now, simply can’t any longer. And they are so very grateful too – I see it in their bright eyes every day. We’re able to offer them the contact with their own kind that has been withheld all of their lives, and watching them blossom as they find their place in the herd is truly exhilarating. We are doing good here, and the support of Horse & Man and their donors has made a HUGE difference here at TGC. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart!

Poor Lucy, when she arrived, she had a gooey green slime running down from her nostrils – and she was horribly skinny. But she is much better now!

AN UPDATE ON BODHI AND WRIGLEY
Bodhi is living the good life with Monique – riding three times a week and being loved on continuously…
He lives with two other horses (who he likes!) and with his retired humans on 33 (well maintained) acres. Life is sweet!

Bodhi lives just 45 minutes away from us but the elevation is much higher… so when we get rain, he gets snow. But, he has a lovely barn and wonderful friends… (and nice green hay!)
WRIGLEY!
Wrigley is in training very close by. However, with the recent flurry of storms and the holidays, training time has been somewhat sparse. But, he is making great strides!

On a sunny day, Jerily ponies Wrigley with her horse. They walked around the neighborhood to all the fun, new and scary places. . As you can see, while Jerily’s horse casually drinks, Wrigley is all ears!
