CAMPING AT MY HOUSE.

(Thank you all for the Birthday well wishes!  I read every single note.  Made my day.)

CAMPING AT MY HOUSE.

So, all almost all of the furniture is gone from the Grass Valley house.  I remembered this when I was packing to come back home and care for the horses until they move… I knew I wouldn’t have a wash machine so I brought extra underwear and towels.  I knew I wouldn’t have silverware so I brought a set.

I also packed in our blowup bed.  It is very cool.  A large suitcase that unfolds into an air mattress bed.  I brought two sets of sheets and my pillow.

But, I really didn’t think it through.

After living here for 48 hours with no car and no stuff, I could make an excellent list of what I should have brought with me.

My bed in a suitcase...

My new 'desk' on the kitchen table. I have one chair.

SHERLOCK HOLMES.

I wanted to share with you what I’ve been able to work out using just what I have.  Actually, it has been kinda fun.

First off, a stroke of luck came my way when I noticed that they forgot to pack up one cabinet in the kitchen.  It was the ‘bowl’ cabinet, so not that great, but much better than the ‘large plates we only use for company’ cabinet.

So, I have one knife, one spoon (too small but it will do) and one fork.  I have a travel mug that was in my car.  I have a mason jar that was in the bowl cabinet – I’m using it as a glass.  I have dish soap and I have the dishwasher, when needed.

Oh, and the ‘bowl’ cabinet also had two cooking bowls that I can use to bake or microwave.

So, actually, I’m set.  I’m using a small glass bowl to heat my water for coffee.  It is a bit dangerous because it doesn’t have handles, but it brings me back to high school chemistry class.  I just wish I had one of those hot glass holders…

For tonight, I forgot my hair dryer or makeup.  So, I’m kinda au natural, so to speak – just like how I was born, I guess.

The 'bowl' cabinet was forgotten during packing so I could boil water for coffee and I could bake food or microwave food!

A bit sparse on the utensils.

BIRTHDAY DAY

Usually I make no plans with others on my birthday (until Dinner with Hubby) because what I like to do is either go riding (no truck and too hot today) or go marathon movie watching in a theater.  I eat a big breakfast then hit the matinee … and then keep watching whatever other movie I want until I’m done.  Eating junk food is part of it, too.

Well, I have no car so the theater is out.  And I’m running out of food – certainly no junk food.   Waaah.  Luckily, Hubby arrives at 7pm tonight to take me to dinner.  Yay!  (Hopefully, he can fix my car tomorrow.)

So, what to do, what to do on this birthday…?

Well, in the morning, I  read all of your birthday well wishes, which was fantastic.  Then, since I couldn’t go anywhere, I asked myself what I really wanted to do…

Hmmmm, I wanted to groom horses but it was very, very hot.  So, scratch that.

Next, I wanted to read a book during the day without guilt.  Aha!  I could do this because we have internet and I have my iPhone.  So, I downloaded two books and read them both.

Scouty shared my bed today and was in doggie HEAVEN.  Hubby was not amused.  I told him that I would change the sheets before he came.

A perfect day so far!  Dinner is going to be fantastic.  I’m really hungry!

My girl is in heaven! Hubby would not stand for this so I will change the sheets now. Scouty will be back on her bed tonight. Poor girl.

You, several readers and Hubby have told me that I cannot cook with that bowl.
I guess I was lucky so far. Thank you!

Please be very very careful with that glass bowl! If it is recent American Pyrex, it is made of a different material than old Pyrex, and it is unsafe — it can explode if placed on certain surfaces (maybe cold ones? You could probably google it.). How awful if it exploded and boiling water and glass shards went after you! Even old Pyrex might not want to be used on an open flame — see http://cooking.stackexchange.com/questions/17970/is-pyrex-safe-to-use-on-a-gas-burner. That link has info about Pyrex varieties also.

Is there nothing in the barn you could cook in?

We are fond of you — Happy Belated Birthday, by the way — and want you to stay safe :-).
