Meet Braveheart he is our newest orphan emergency rescue. Thursday night at 8:50pm I received a call from the sheriffs. They were on scene of a horse vs vehicle accident, they said the horse took off towards the little lake and it may have a broken leg. My first call was to Shannon then Cindra to go see if they can get eyes on the horse. Shannon called and said we have a very young probably a week old orphaned foal. The mare was deceased with the Stallion and foal standing over her. Cindra was up on the road for traffic control incase there were more horses around or the stallion decided to take off that way. I immediately called in Tracy and Deana for emergency transport and to assess the condition of the foal to see if he needed to get into the vet. Thankfully he was just fine, they got him loaded into the truck for the 45 minute drive. Where he had a bottle and was able to get warm, eventually falling asleep on Shannon’s lap for most of the drive. In the meantime I called Linda with LBL and told her I am bringing in a week old colt. Linda got out of bed and immediately went to get the foal nursery ready. When we arrived at LBL he was such a good boy walking with his first halter and lead rope, up the driveway through the gate and into the foal nursery. We got him settled in and Linda pulled the first night shift. He didn’t want the panel separating them so Linda went and slept on the floor next to him. Later that morning he got to go out and meet some of the other horses and he stayed in the stall next to his orphaned sister Sadie. A huge thank you to Shannon, Cindra, Tracy, Deana for always being there when I need you and to LBL for jumping with a minutes notice when I have a foal or critical horse to bring in. More updates to come. If you can make a donation in honor of Braveheart for him and all our orphaned foals they send a milk cover muzzle kiss to you.
