‘RIDE ALERT’ : 24/7 EMERGENCY ID AND SUPPORT SERVICES FOR HORSE AND RIDER! I ride alone often… so I registered.

Wednesday, January 1st, 2014 | Filed under Handy Tips

I received a flyer inside of my registration from US Rider (the Equestrian Motor Plan).

It was for RIDE ALERT.

Hmmmmm.  This sounded interesting… So, I ventured to the website.

I RIDE ALONE

Sure, I ride with friends on planned rides…

But with my wacky schedule, usually, if I find a few hours to ride, I grab a horse and hop in the trailer – alone.

I’ve never had a serious accident or any reason to fear (Thank HorseGod), but I do think about it.

The thought has crossed my mind…

I mean, I don’t go to places where there aren’t Rangers or someone who would notice a truck left in the parking lot or a riderless horse… but still… lots can happen when you and your horse head off for the trails.

Heck, stuff can happen right outside of the trailer!

So yes, I do think about my safety and try to make sure I would be identifiable if anyone found me.  Finn has an ID tag on his saddle, in case we become separated.

But….

RIDER ALERT (no affiliation) – only $24.99 annually!

So I went to the website and for $24.99 a year, the people on the other end of the line will:

–Contact Rider’s next of kind

–Relay details of medical or allergy conditions and crisis plans to emergency services

–Contact barns and owners when loose horse is found

The idea is that you wear a wristband,  your horse has a tag on his bridle or saddle, and whatever property you have has an ID marker.

DEVICES

So then I wondered if the devices would hold up… and I found this page:

WHAT I REALLY LIKED…. THE PHONE APP:  A TRACKER OF SORTS!

Of course, this won’t work if you don’t have any signal on your phone… but if you ride where your phone works, this tracker could be really useful.

I always try to tell someone that I’ve gone riding… but I don’t always tell them exactly where.  This Ride Alert Phone App can track where you are.  If  you stop moving, it will buzz you so that you can tell it that you are OK – or however you set it up to alert you – and if you respond, the tracker is happy.

If you don’t respond, the tracker will notify whomever you’ve asked it to notify.

I like this.

As soon as I am done writing tonight, I am going to download the app.

I REGISTERED.

For me, it is just a bit more peace of mind … and it also makes it easier for me to ‘take off’ and know that I’ll have someone there  – just in case.

Having worked for many years in rescue etc. I would suggest a micro-chip. Many of the cases I worked with the horse was found minus his bridle and saddle.
