Several months ago – Oy how time flies… – Bickmore sent products to me to try.
They sent Bick 4, Bick 5, Pine Tar, Super H Antiseptic Powder and Gall Salve! How nice of them… (Jessie Ruppel, in particular. Thank you!)
Although I looove receiving products to test (kinda like Christmas!), I also feel badly because I know:
a) I’m so busy, I tend to not get to things for a while
b) I don’t ride as much as I should
c) I don’t groom as much as I should
d) I don’t have many injuries (thank HorseGod) so I don’t use many injury type products.
So… I had to be creative here and put on my thinking cap…
MY DRESSAGE SADDLE IS STILL SHINY WHILE LYING DORMANT…
Well, the truth is, my leather dressage saddle is still perfect from the last time I didn’t use it.
My Boz saddle was cleaned when I put it away for winter. I also conditioned and prepped all of my headstalls and riding tack. Everything is hermetically sealed in repurposed plastic, zippered bedsheet container bags (I love those things! I buy sheets just so I can get more of those zippered bags!).
Anyway, my point is that I couldn’t find a way to test any of these products on my horses or horse gear in a timely manner…
I needed my thinking cap.
HMMMMM.
What else is leather and takes a beating around here?…
My boots! Of course!
My black leather street boots are looking pretty shabby since I practically wear them daily…! I could test my boots!
Yes, yes! I could do my purses, too!
…
I think that sometimes we forget to find everyday uses for horse products!

These are my street boots. I’ve been wearing them almost every day this winter and they needed some care, for sure! They looked like they were going to start cracking…
MY BOOT EXPERIMENT
My boots were looking slightly scruffy. Maybe a bit dry and dull – and almost looked like they might even be cracking?… They definitely needed moisture and love.
I had been meaning to buy some boot conditioner at the local boot place. But, I hadn’t…
So, this experiment was perfect!
I grabbed my boots and a cloth. I put the Bick 4 on the cloth and spread it all over very easily. It wasn’t greasy and it seemed to soak in quickly.
They say that Bick 4 conditions, cleans, polishes and acts as a stain repellant – making it really easy for me who likes ‘all-in-one’ time savers And, it is wax and silicone-free so I figured it wouldn’t change the look of my boots. I hate when that happens.
It was easy! Likkidy split! No mess. It took about 2 minutes. I could see how easily this would work for tack. It wasn’t runny, greasy or melty. I could control where it went and it wiped away quickly. I didn’t feel like I needed to rub and push the product into the leather.
Super user-friendly.
Then I applied the Bick 5. I didn’t need to use the Bick 5 because Bick 5 is simply a heavier duty version of Bick 4. It is for harnesses or extreme leather cleaning/conditioning.
But, what the heck? I did it anyway.
Bick 5 is a spray. So, it is even easier. Spray, wipe, done.

This is after the boot on the left was cleaned and conditioned. The boot on the right has not been touched.
NICE!
I was very, very pleased. In just a moment, seriously, my boots looked way better. I could tell that they had absorbed the product because they didn’t look so dusty and thirsty.
So, if you have any Bickmore Leather products in your tack room, bring them out and clean your boots! It was soooooo quick and easy!
I need to do my purse… ;)
