RAIN, THUNDERNLIGHTENING AND MUD! YAHOOO!

I’m not sure if the R Lazy S Ranch has ever had this many days in a row of bad weather… Pretty remarkable.  But, there is no way to not have a good time here so we are having a great time!

TODAY was supposed to be the Breakfast Ride and photography day.  However, schlepping all of the breakfast stuff outside to the gorgeous outdoor breakfast place seemed like a waste of time since it was raining… and no one really wanted to sit on wet benches and eat even wetter food.

So, we went on a mostly dry and glorious breakfast ride and came back to eat a dry (and very tasty) breakfast inside – next to a huge crackling fire in the stone fireplace inside the lodge.

–Did I tell you that they make all your meals while guesting here?  Yum!  And, you can request whatever you need and they try to accommodate your wishes.

As for the poor photographer, he had his job cut out for him… how to get great shots on a rainy day?  We tried not to look drenched and he tried to get the best shots he could, but it wasn’t the same as last year when the photographer popped up here and there to take lovely shots around the basin as we rode.

This morning's ride was supposed to be the Breakfast Ride with the Photographer. However, it was really rainy so breakfast was inside. No worries though, the ride was glorious - as usual.

TODAY’S MORNING NON-BREAKFAST RIDE

I really enjoyed today’s non-breakfast ride.  We sloshed all through the Park floor around the Snake River.  Just glorious…  We crossed through the river a few times and Dove was a real Champ – I was holding my feet above the saddle as she clomped her way through the flowing, crystal clear water and she did great.  We found some boggy parts and downed trees – each odd, new roadblock she circumnavigated with ease.

However, Dove and I were in the rear today and she was a bit nervous.  Dove and I chatted about the pros and cons of being in the rear…   Susan, our well-seasoned Wrangler, told me that Dove was new at the ranch and that I was the second guest to ride her…  Aha!  I knew I liked Dove!  It is fun to have a horse who is just as new at this as I was!

While pulling up the rear, we took in the majestic scenery which was quite dramatic – with the clouds and all… Most of the mountains were obscured by fog and rain.  But, I gotta say, even though not the best conditions, it was beautiful just the same.  And, no dust – we had that going for us… especially since we were at the back!

As usual, I did forget to take any pics but I have asked a fellow rider to send over some that he took, so maybe we will get lucky here.

We didn't get too wet... Here is Hubby with Adam, our friend, after the morning ride. We were on the deck, waiting for breakfast.

THE OTHER ASPECT OF THIS GUEST RANCH – the people!

I don’t often speak of the other guests… and I should because the people are another reason this experience is so phenomenal.

The other guests are folks you’d probably never meet in your regular lives because they live all over the country and work all different fields.

But here, every one is on a level playing field.

That is what is so phenomenal.  A guest ranch is a great equalizer!

You all come here to ride and enjoy the experience.  Bad vibes not welcomed.

Here is a photo from last night.  I took this after we had finished dinner (served family style at large tables) and several of the adults had ventured out onto the outdoor patio.  It was raining, so we were huddled under the alcove at a table with way too many chairs pulled around it.

I couldn’t quite capture everyone in the shot because I needed a wide angle lens, but perhaps you can feel the energy… everyone was laughing and carrying on independent conversations with their neighbors or across the table.  It was so invigorating and refreshing!  I felt like I was watching kids at recess!  Everyone was happy.

Many of these people had just met each other two days ago!

I also added a photo of one of the kids who had won at “capture the flag” – a game they played after dinner.  She was very muddy and very proud!

The kids had gone out to play “Capture the Flag” – as you can see, one of the winners was very proud! And Muddy!

AS I WRITE THIS…

As I write this, the Thunder and Lightening has stopped but the rain is pouring down.

The residents are happy to see the rain.

I’m sitting on my very comfortable bed in my nice, warm cabin and I’m hoping that the rain will ease up for some lovely riding tomorrow.

Only three days left!

EVERSAFE: all natural mosquito control… I tried it and IT WORKS!

THIS WAS ORIGINALLY POSTED EXACTLY A YEAR AGO!  BUT NOW YOU CAN BUY THESE INCREDIBLE MOSQUITO CONTROL DEVICES EASILY ONLINE!!  SO, I’M POSTING IT AGAIN!  No Affiliation – I just know they work!

EVERSAFE: all natural mosquito control… I tried it and IT WORKS!

In June, I went to the Western States Horse Expo.  While there, I stumbled across some interesting people selling unusual items.

One of those items was…

EverSafe: all natural mosquito control (no affiliation).

THE PRODUCT BOX SAID…

I found this small booth stacked with only one item.  Mosquito control.  Hundreds of boxes of the same thing, stacked neatly.

I was intrigued.

It must work… who would bring only one item to such an expensive vendor arena if it didn’t work?

I ventured into the booth and discovered a very nice, scientific looking man.  As soon as he started speaking, I could tell that he was the developer.  This guy knew everything there was to know about mosquitoes, specifically, what makes them bite and what chemistry will make them not bite.

Everything he said made sense.

I had a gut feeling that I was onto something big here…

Hmmmm.  I picked up one of the many identical boxes stacked before me.

The product box said:

–Creates an environment virtually free of mosquitoes

–Safe for the earth, people, pets and wildlife

–Nontoxic and DEET-free: made with plant-based ingredients

–Protects over 1/3 of an acre (over 15,000 square feet)

–Easy to use:  just add water

–No power or batteries needed

–Reusable and refillable; each refill lasts up to 2 weeks

I bought two.

OMG. They work really, really well and are inexpensive!

I BROUGHT THEM HOME

I brought them home and put one out.

You have to set them low to the ground…

Like a person who doesn’t live with 2 large puppies (oy), I set them out (very easy) on the ground.

And, like a person who does have 2 large puppies, the EverSafe Mosquito Protection little green house was d-e-s-t-r-o-y-e-d instantly.

Sigh.

So, I called the company 941.373.1320 and spoke to a lovely woman who completely understood.  She suggested I put a grate over them or a metal mesh table over them.  She said they were developing hanging bags since the ‘my dog destroyed my mosquito protection house’ was a common cry.

Anyway, she sent two more.

I gave one to my neighbor and I hid one behind our barbeque – in a spot too small for 2 giant puppies.

They work on large areas! Ours in on our patio.

THEY WORKED!

They work!

I have not seen one, not one, mosquito!

My neighbors, who entertain outside all the time, have not seen a mosquito either!

They totally work.

YOU CAN NOW PURCHASE THEM EASILY ONLINE!!
