I didn’t know how to title this one…
Once again (and I’m not complaining!), it is supposed to rain heavily tonight so I brought the ponies into the barn. Buuuuut, I also brought in Norma Jean (my donkey) because her dastardly skin fungus is back!
Ugh. Poor girl.
I caught Norma biting at her legs yesterday so I went over to her (she immediately acted like there was nothing to see…) and peered through all the dense donkey hair to find SCABS!
So, I need to treat her again. Clearly, I missed spots – that grew inflamed again.
I’m going to try to treat her infection without shaving her legs, first. If that doesn’t work, I’ll shave her gams and beat back the nastiness.
She must be so itchy! Poor girl.
Luckily, I have several different remedies – sent to me by a few different companies. First, I’m going to use the Well-Horse Pet B Well Wound and Skin Remedy. All of the Well Horse products really helped Mama Tess so I am very confident that I will see improvement with Norma! (no affiliation)
I adore these guys (Dodger and Slick) and love having them in the barn.
Today, when I opened their paddock to bring them into the barn, they both knew exactly what I wanted and I think they were glad! As soon as they heard me rattle the chain on their gate, they ran over, brushed past me, grabbed a bite of fresh grass and then trotted off to the barn as fast as their little legs would take them… I think they love being in the barn because they know I will let them roam the property the following morning.
So, the pones (I call them “pones” pronounced like ‘cones’ – they respond to me when I call that out to them… “Pones!” – they come running) are contented to be in the barn tonight… and I love it. Seeing pony faces in the barn makes me very happy.
