Tonight I went to the John Edward live event here in Sacramento.

Do you know John Edward?  He had a show on TV called, Crossing Over.  Did you ever see it?

Basically, he can hear dead people.

I have always been fascinated by his TV show because he seemed so genuine and the audience felt so grateful to him.

So,  when I heard he was coming to town for one night only several months ago, I got online and purchased a ticket.

I wanted to go and see for myself.

THE LINE

I left my house so I could be there in plenty of time.

Or so I thought…

When I arrived at the hotel where the event took place, it was evident that I had miscalculated the popularity of this show.

OMG.  The place was packed!  Literally, the line wrapped around the entire lobby of the hotel and doubled back on itself like a large, human snake.  I was shocked.

I went to the end and stood there – for an hour!

But, luckily, all the people standing around in my general area were quite interesting.

While joining in polite conversation, I tried not to think about that ‘quick dinner’ I was going to have time to eat nor the fact that I needed to use the restroom.

Luckily, my line-buddy let me leave to get a glass of water.

THE WAIT

After an hour, the line started moving as they let us all in – I think there were 630 people, but I’m not sure.

Once seated, the reality set in that clearly, my chances of hearing from any of my deceased loved ones were fairly miniscule.  After all, the show was only 120 minute long and by the stories I heard while standing in line, most of those that came really, really, really wanted to connect with their loved ones – and they had more tragic or moving stories than I did.

Truth to tell, I felt kinda sheepish knowing that I hoped to connect with one human friend, but mostly my passed pets…

So, I settled into my chair with my new friends around me and waited for the show to start.

I looked around the room at all the expectant faces and felt the longing and hope from their hearts.

It was palpable.

THE SHOW

John Edward came out and filled the room with positive and delightful energy.  He was quite engaging – in a personal and human way.

As expected, the show took off at a run in a whirlwind of astounding perceptions and eager validations.

Truly, I was amazed and very emotional… the people around me who were touched by John showed visible relief and torrents of emotion.  I was even crying during some of the realizations and confrontations.

I am a skeptic and I was watching – (having seen the movie with Steve Martin and Debra Winger LEAP OF FAITH)  but I don’t think there is any way that this could have been faked.  The insights were very specific.

I found myself wanting to be next.  Really Really Really wanting to be next.

If you have never watched his show, you might want to catch it when you can.

Amazing.  I left feeling contented and hopeful.

And even though he didn’t get to me, my heart was happy and light.

Nice.

THE BEST PART

The best part for me was that he mentioned pets several times during the show…  “Your white cat is there with your father…”.

John even stated that pets are there to welcome us when we cross over.

That gave me a big smile.

 

WAS THAT FOR ME?…

The other part that made me happy was that I think he was just starting to be pulled in my direction when the show needed to end.

I’m probably hallucinating and being very hopeful but…

He said, “Who here has many dogs and they are named after Hollywood celebrities or famous people?  I keep getting Marilyn Monroe?…”

I thought that was for me.

So, tentatively, I began waving frantically in my section – kindof feeling silly but also really excited inside.

…But he didn’t see me and then he moved onto his closing statements.

However, I took that as a gift from my good friend Nancy who passed recently who loved all of my dogs (all named after famous people) and who commented daily on my donkey, Norma Jean’s, Facebook page.

She was named after Marilyn Monroe.

Whether I was grabbing at something meant for me – or just hoping… – in any case, I felt buoyed by the thought that our departed friends and animals watch us in the afterlife and wait there patiently to love us again.

After all, isn’t that what it is all about?  Whether real or imagined, we all just want to be loved while on earth and welcomed to where we go next…

Tonight, in that room, we all felt it.
