A NEW, HORRIFIC ‘BETTING GAME’ that may have been at the root of Xena’s attack…

Xena the Fighter was one of our Bucket Fund recipient’s last month.  Although the photos are graphic and her wounds were very severe, the mare is recovering.

(Her story is linked here.)

Xena’s rescuers and the veterinarians knew she was attacked … but by WHAT?  How?  What happened to this mare?

A mystery…

Most thought that Xena must have been attacked by a roaming pack of dogs – or something like that.

Well…

Last week, I received this email from a reader in Southern CA – (close to where Xena was found):

“Our (sic) underground horsemen in SoCal alerted me that there’s a new gang betting activity. It’s gone from pitting fighting dogs against one another to now dog pack versus horse. It’s all about the money. And it’s an old Roman game activity. Prey vs predator. Betting.”

So, let’s all be aware of this new and disgusting game.  If we are aware of it, maybe we can stop it before it grows.

Spread the word.

Xena could have been the victim of a new betting game - instead of cock fighting or dog fighting, they are now training packs of dogs against horse. Disgusting. Watch for it and spread the word.

BODHI UPDATE… IT IS HEALING!

Two weeks ago, Bodhi gashed his side on something… actually, 2 somethings… and I have yet to figure out what did this.  I suspect two nails in a fenceboard but I cannot find it for the life of me.

To read the original story of his wound and the vet visit/suturing, click here.

UPDATE!

Bodhi is healing…

Since the stitches all split open after the third day, I’ve been rinsing his wound daily and applying The Balm!  (EquiSpa product that I love – no affiliation).

I find that The Balm soothes the itch/pain (he likes it when I slather it on there…) and also keeps the flies away.

I schmear it on top of the wound and directly into the wound.

When I put it on top of the wound, his body heat melts the cream and it drips into his wound, keeping it moisturized and protected with all of the natural herbs, etc.

When I put it directly into the wound, it acts as a barrier.  And, when it falls out, it takes whatever scabs or dirt that might be in there (that I couldn’t flush out) and takes it with it.

Today, I had been working at a particular area of dirt/scab with the hose and Bodhi was getting upset.  The water spray hurts, of course.  So, I dabbed in a chunk of The Balm and out came the scab with the chunk of The Balm!  It is thicker than Vaseline so it holds onto stray particles better.  It isn’t as gooey.

However, I do use Vaseline under the wound to keep his skin from becoming irritated from whatever serums might leak out.

This is the first day…

Then the stitches all popped open… The Dr. told me to wash it daily with a gentle hose sprayer nozzle and put cream on it.  He also told me to put Vaseline under the wound so the serum leakage wouldn’t irritate his skin.

I love this product. I use it on everything… it even healed the splits in my fingers. It is all natural. (No affiliation)

This is how it looks when I put The Balm! on top of the wound – it melts into the wound. As you can see, it is getting better.

After washing it with the hose…

This is what it looks like when I put THE BALM! straight into the wound. As it heats up, it will melt and chunk off, taking any left over debris/scabbing that I missed with it.  As you can see, the cut above the big one is almost healed!

This was Bodhi’s wound today. I couldn’t get all of the scab bits out of there with the water spray (he gets sensitive after a while…) so I pushed in more The Balm! and that will clear it all out while it also heals the wound!

Here he is, eating his breakfast after I’ve tended to his wound. Gwen is in the background, begging.
