Do you ever just want a break… or a screaming deal?  I sure do!

So today I decided to look at sales.  No, not sales.  I wanted to look at awesome DEALS.  So I started to look at “clearance”.  Clearance seemed good…

But it wasn’t good enough.

I wanted MORE.

So, I went for CLOSEOUT.  Yes… the products that didn’t sell well for some reason.  The products that no longer rate enough to hold shelf space.  The warehouse wants them outta there!… Music to my ears because sometimes products don’t sell for the most benign reasons.  I mean, you might have to do some research, but often times, a product doesn’t sell because the description wasn’t great or the photo wasn’t great or they only have one size left or it was just the wrong color.

Today, I decided to go a’huntin’ at SmartPak.  Click here to go to their Closeout page!

HERE IS WHAT I WOULD BUY IF I COULD BUY EVERYTHING I WANTED

EASY PEASY ICE COLD FRUIT SALAD FOR YOUR HORSE! Help beat the boredom of the HEAT!

Tuesday, July 17th, 2018 | Filed under Handy Tips

I swear, every time I go outside to do something for the horses, I come inside, strip down and sit very quietly until my body cools down.  Ugh.  It is HOT here.

How about where you live?

Well, one of the things I do for my horses is make an ice cold fruit salad.  It started because I had melon rinds and apple cores left over from our breakfast smoothies.  Hmmmm, I thought… I could freeze these and give them to the horses in a few hours.  And they LOVED them.  So, now I cut up all of my rinds, apple cores, ignored fruit in the fruit basket and whatever else I find in the refrigerator that I figure I can donate to my horses’ happy day.

THEY LOVED THE FRUITSICLES (and the hydration), but simple frozen fruit is yummy, too!

Last year, I actually made fruitsicles… where I put fruit pieces in cups and added water, then froze the whole thing.

But, I realized, they just wanted the fruit…  I still think popsicles are a good idea for hydration if needed, but simple frozen fruit is an excellent idea, too.  And really easy.

Just cut up fruit, put it in your freezer, let sit, feed.

This is Bodhi and Remi from a few years ago.

I made horsicles last year… but simple frozen fruit is easier and they love it!

SAFE FRUITS TO FEED

Cut these up, toss them in a bucket or tupperware, and freeze.  You could add water to it and make a fruitsicle, too!  Then, just pop it all into their feed buckets!

  • Apples, Apricots
  • Bananas, Beets, Blackberries, Blueberries, Strawberries
  • Carrots, Celery, Cherries, Coconut, Corn
  • Dates
  • Figs
  • Grapes, Grapefruit
  • Lettuce
  • Mango
  • Orange
  • Peach, Pear, Pineapple, Plums, Pumpkins, Cucumber
  • Raisins
  • Watermelon

THEIR LIKES AND DISLIKES

I know that all of mine have different favorite fruits/vegetables.  For example, BG loves orange rinds, the others, not so much.  Annie doesn’t like melon (go figure).  Dodger won’t eat apples (I think because he thinks medicine is hidden in them).

Anyway, it is kinda fun to figure out which they like best!

Last year, our neighbor gave us their left over melons from harvest.  Oh my gosh!  I’ve never seen so many gooey faces!  Gooey, happy faces!

Beat the heat with a treat!  (See what I did there?!)

And, if you happen to have a lion, they like frozen things, too. (I found this in my research and had to share!)

STAY COOL AND COMFORTABLE!
