UPDATE ON OUR DECEMBER BUCKET FUND 23 MUSTANGS! GREAT NEWS!

We have great progress in saving the family of 23 wild mustangs that crossed the HWY too many times… they have three strikes against them, for crossing the highway to water, so that allows them to be sold for meat – no questions asked.

Instead, our great friends at LRTC stepped up to place them all!  But, they needed time to get it all done.

These are two of the youngsters from this herd ... they had been documented before they were rounded up.

THE GREAT NEWS – LRTC is whirling like crazy to make things happen for these mustangs!

One of the reasons I support LRTC is because they get things done.  They don’t take on more than they can reasonably accomplish, and they fight tirelessly for the wild horses of Nevada.

Well, the brilliant idea of the day was to ask the local Fernley Speedway owner if the horses could live there  – no threat of meat buyers and less disease.  The place has no activity during the Holiday season and their infield could use some trimming!  They agreed!  12 horses were brought there today!

So, aside from placing several of the horses in mustang safe homes already, there are only 12 that need support through this month.

From 23 down to 12!

And, one whole band of 5 is staying together and will be headed to a Sanctuary!!

The first 10 (aren't they gorgeous?!) being offloaded at the Speedway.

WE CAN DO THIS! – Our goal just got cut in half!

Here is the email I received from LRTC today!

–Note:  They were able to move 11 of the horses today (Thursday).  The following 3 will trailer over on Friday (Dec 9).
We’re going 100 MPH right now but I think we’re about to pull off a miracle.  The Fernley Speedway has offered to hold the band of 14 (which will soon be 10 with adoptions) in their infield since there are no auto races scheduled for this month.  That state is on-board with the idea.

So we’re going to get blood drawn and horses vaccinated tomorrow. On Friday (if all goes well) the unadopted horses will all be bailed out and be at the Speedway.  I have to emphasize that these “fixes” are temporary but they will reduce the costs materially and the adoption effort is still running at full steam.

The participation of the Drop in the Bucket Fund contributors has given us the confidence to make these commitments.

Statistics so far:

23 horses – Starting count
5 horses – Going to sanctuary (The tipped ear stallion’s entire band will stay together)
  3 horses – Adoptions finalized
  3 horses – Adoptions pending
2 horses – LRTC will be taking to eventually place with adopters (Note 1)
10 horses – In temporary Foster care until they can be placed.

Note 1:  The reason LRTC only has room for two is because we have taken in a number of the ISPMB horses from South Dakota.  The other rescues in the region are also at capacity.

Also: During Foster care, we’re keeping the Appy stud’s family unit together as best we can while the horses are awaiting adoption.

THEY ARE DOING INCREDIBLE WORK HERE!  WE CAN SAVE THEM ALL!

Our goal of 4140 was just reduced majorly by the efforts of LRTC.  Now, we need only care/board for 12 horses at $6 per day for 30 days = $2160.  Our new goal is half of what we had anticipated!  We have $922 in the Fund as I write this.  We can do it!  We can get there!  Thank you!!
