AN UPDATE ON ANOTHER HURRICANE HARVEY HORSE THAT WE HELPED – BUDDY IS GOING HOME!

Well, this isn’t really an update because I never knew about this horse… but Dr. Ben Buchanan said that he was working so fast, he just forgot to send us the initial photos of Buddy and his horrendous coffin joint injury.

But, he said our funds helped many horses that he didn’t send photos of because he was just working so fast and too hard – including beautiful Buddy here.

The story is that Buddy came in with a life-threatening laceration to his rear coffin joint.  His owner found him this way after returning to her home post hurricane Harvey, ensuing flood and tornadoes.  I am told that the tornadoes are a huge issue as they send all kinds of bad things into the air to fall wherever.  For this poor horse, they think he bumped into a tin roof or a sharp piece of metal or wire.   The cut was clean but very, very deep.

WARNING – GRAPHIC.  HE IS HEALING FROM THIS, BUT IT WAS VERY DEEP AND RAW.

A life threatening, very deep cut into Buddy’s coffin joint. It almost severed his hoof.  A portion of last month’s Bucket Fund money went to heal this horse.

This was taken after Dr. B cleaned and debrided the wound. He applied a soft pad, antibiotics, salves … and prayed. He was kept very quiet.

HOW?… WHAT?… we didn’t know about him… But now Buddy is healing and headed home!

According to Dr. B, this was a BIG life-threatening injury.  The joint could have easily become infected (and we know how bad that is from Mama Tess), it could have snapped, it could have caused founder… so many awful outcomes.

But, Buddy is a lucky one!  He is healing and will survive this!  Today, he went home.

All this – because of your donations and good will during the October Harvey Horses Bucket Fund drive.

Thank you thank you thank you.  Buddy thanks you.  I am sure his owner does, too.

Buddy looks to be in excellent condition, considering he almost lost his life and left rear hoof! Yes, I see that his SoftRide is on incorrectly, but I’m thinking they only had two lefts, or something… just to get him home. I’m not sure why his other rear is wrapped… maybe to keep on the matching pad. Not sure. I know they don’t want any laminitis to lead to founder, so they are taking extra precautions on this ride home. He has come so far in the last month!

OCTOBER EMERGENCY DROP IN THE BUCKET FUND (read story here)!  4 abandoned donkeys!  Their owner passed away and these donkeys were forgotten in a field.  No water, no food SINCE JUNE!
