It is Sunday. A fine day to celebrate new life!
As you all may know by now, our April Bucket Fund horse, Champ 2, didn’t make it. Very sad.
However, we decided to continue the BF in Champ’s honor for all of the other horses he left behind at his last resting spot of happiness, South Florida SPCA. And, we were especially hoping to help with Connie who had become Champ’s favorite gal pal in his last days. Connie was also neglected, very skinny and pregnant.
Well, lo and behold, without anyone knowing (because she had not waxed), Connie delivered a fresh Champ on April 11th! Easy as pie, the ‘been there done that’ Mom was perfect in her job. She delivered alone without issue and has been the perfect combination of protective and nurturing.
It is heartbreaking to think that someone was throwing Connie away with this wonderful colt inside of her… and then heart warming to know that this little man has filled the void in the brokenhearted volunteers and staff at SF SPCA!
So, without further delay, here are more photos of Little Champ’s first two days!
(I want to acknowledge the 16 year-old volunteer at SF SPCA who wrote to me and asked if she could do anything to help with the donation drive for her horses and all of the animals at SF SPCA… I told her that she could take photos and tell me stories. Well, let me tell you… that girl kept me updated on Champ 2, she sent photos of pregnant Connie to me and then sent 21 photos of Little Champ. Michelle, you ROCK!)

This is my fav. Here is our little guy venturing out into the world with such confidence and contentment - he will never know the worries of his mother or his namesake... We might not be able to save them all, but we saved this one. Yes!
THESE PICS JUST IN!

Yep.. it is Jimmy the Emu who was rescued from the same ranch at the same time as Connie. Jimmy looooves Little Champ!
HORSE AND MAN is a blog in growth… if you like this, please pass it around!
