The owners took in a million dollars in donations in one year… yet 81 horses were removed, starved. Our November BUCKET FUND HORSES: The survivors of Peaceable Farms.

It is unthinkable when humans hide behind an Animal Rescue Charity in order to steal all of the donations and make 81 innocent horses – the same horses used to garner the donations – suffer horribly.

Anne Shumate Goland is presently behind bars after being arrested on animal cruelty charges.  Her 501 (c) 3 charitable non-profit,  Peaceable Farms, garnered over a million dollars in 2013.  But last month after receiving many complaints, Sheriffs entered the property and found beyond deplorable conditions including 6 dead horses, a dead donkey, 86 emaciated horses, plus several deceased dogs, cats and chickens.  It was determined that 5 horses needed to be euthanize on site and 5 more have been euthanized after being rescued.  In total, Sheriffs removed 81 horses, 28 cats and 7 dogs.

DEAD HORSES IN STALLS AND ON THE GROUNDS, INJURED/STARVED HORSES …HORRENDOUS CONDITIONS FOR THE RESCUERS.

I’m not showing you the really bad photos… so you can imagine the deplorable and sickening conditions for the rescuers.

I'm not showing you the worst photos... just believe me, it was very bad.

THE HORSES WHO WERE PURPOSEFULLY STARVED SO THEIR OWNER COULD LIVE THE HIGH LIFE ON THEIR DONATIONS.

From a news article:

Peaceable’s expenses in 2013 for the horse rescue were $1,190,840. The rescue brought in $1,127,823, according to the Form 990, filed in November 2014. Veterinarian fees are listed at $205,138, supplies like hay, grain, and shavings totaled $410,301, boarding fees were $123,700, contract labor was $167,026, and other expenses were $219,320. That category includes the farrier and horse dentist, tack and supplies, horse hauling, supplies and expenses, utilities, barn equipment expenses, maintenance and cleaning.

Another article from Channel 6 news in Orange, VA:

“What I saw was one of the most horrendous sights I’ve ever seen in 28 years of law enforcement,” said Orange County Sheriff Mark Amos. “We found six dead horses, one dead donkey, many dogs, cats, and chickens.”

Now let’s help the poor horses who suffered from her greed.

This is a 17 year old Saddlebred named, Big Red. He is one of the lucky ones to make it out alive. Big Red is being rehabilitated at Central VA Horse Rescue – They say he could not be more sweet.

81 REMAINING HORSES ARE BEING TREATED, REHABBED AND FED… 5 RESCUES ARE HELPING – AN IMMENSE AND EXPENSIVE UNDERTAKING.

The greed is contemptible.  Can you imagine living on this farm, among all these suffering animals and doing NOTHING?!

Disgusting.

But, 5 wonderful and ethical Rescues have stepped up to help:  Travelers’ Rest Equine EldersHope’s Legacy Equine Rescue, Central Virginia Horse Rescue, Gentle Giants DraftHorse Rescue and the private rescue/farm New Beginnings Horse Rescue.

These are some of the drafts taken in by Gentle Giants.

This is Emma - she's pregnant, if you can believe that! The greedy owners not only starved her, but bred her.

Thank you, Horse and Man, for drawing attention to the plight of these animals and the rescuers helping them. It is important to strengthen animal protection laws in Virginia and throughout the country.

It’s a tragedy to see such heartless greedy motivation! Animal Cruelty should be a Felony!

I know any rescue would love to bring in $1,000 a month per animal! What on earth did they spend that money on? Good job to the rescues stepping up to help and for law enforcement getting in there and rescuing these animals.
