Our November Bucket Fund recipient was the little donkey, LIla, who was (and is still) receiving care at UC Davis after a maligned attempt by a previous vet to remove a Sarcoid…
You can read her tragic and sad story here.

This is a gentle angle… but you can see the mess that was made of the tumor. She is now at UC Davis undergoing treatment.
THE GREAT NEWS…
However, the great news is that we raised $4135 towards her care! Wahoo!! Well done!
I don’t have a Pay Pal receipt because UC Davis doesn’t accept payments via Pay Pal. So, I wrote a check.
MORE GOOD NEWS…
Remember that I had visited Lila and watched one of her surgeries… well, while on Campus, it occurred to me that there had to be situations here (Clearly, with all the trailers coming and going, there were sick horses of all shapes and sizes) where the Horse and Man Group could really help.
So, I asked the DR on duty if she could call me when there was a very unfortunate case that had a promising outcome but the family couldn’t afford the treatment. I thought that if there was the right situation, the Bucket Fund could step in and help.
Well, she put me in touch with a very knowledgeable gal in the financial department of UC Davis who worked with me to figure out a way that the University could let me know of cases that fell within the Horse and Man Bucket Fund guidelines – while upholding all of their rules and obligations – but still making it possible to let owners know if the Bucket Fund was available to them.
Does that make sense?
Basically, we had to see if there was a legal and appropriate way to allow Horse and Man to hear about perfect Bucket Fund cases and then offer help.
That legal and appropriate giving opportunity is now called, THE HORSE AND MAN GROUP COMPASSIONATE CARE FUND!
Yay!
So, when UC Davis has a horse in a tragic situation that meets our criteria, they will let me know. It won’t be often, but just knowing that our Hope Chest is orbiting around campus – will be a huge relief to whatever horse falls into our arms.
And, it will be tax deductible to all donors!
Nice!
