LAST MINUTE APRIL BUCKET FUND: LET’S HELP THIS BLIND BABY SEE!

This whole thing is a dream turned into a nightmare.

Basically, a horseperson, just like you and me, named “Donna” saved up for a special stud fee, bred her special forever mare and excitedly waited the 11 months for this greatly anticipated baby with huge hopes and aspirations.

DISASTER STRIKES THE BARN – 3 horses severely ill needing hospitalization, including the very pregnant mare!

Then, 3 weeks before the delivery, this mare and two other of their family horses became violently ill with an intestinal virus.

The vets did their best to save all three horses.  Oreo, the dam, spent six days in the ICU unit of Desert Pines Equine Veterinary Facility, in North Las Vegas hooked up to I.V. Fluids, medications and Gastric tubes for feeding and fluids. The fevers were high and dehydration was a constant battle.

The vets told Donna that if they saved Oreo, they had bad news about the baby… a virus like this 3 weeks before delivery would most likely effect the foal’s eyes – badly.

Gut punch.

As the mare recovered, the fears grew while they awaited delivery.

The mare survived her devastating illness 3 weeks before delivery - but the baby was born blind.

BABY BORN BLIND – from Dam’s very recent severe illness

At first glance, a  perfect, glorious baby filly was born on April 14th… except upon examination, her eyes had blinding cataracts.

The surgery to repair her sight would be $7000 and had to be performed quickly before the blinding became permanent.

Donna had just spend thousands of dollars on three horses in ICU.  She felt she couldn’t come up with any more funds to help this baby… and she was devastated.

Can you imagine the heartbreak of saving up to breed, breeding your favorite mare, having her almost die in ICU, only to deliver a blind filly...

ANGELS ON THE GROUND! – Friends rallying to help Donna save this precious foal through surgery.

But there were Angels on the Ground!  Donna’s friends rallied!  They said that they would start a GOFUNDME and spread the word through Facebook and maybe enough donations could be raised to do one eye – at least…  and maybe by some miracle, both eyes.

At this point, they have raised almost $3000 on their own!  But donations have slowed… so a reader asked if I could help this baby.

WE CAN HELP THIS BABY! – 100% Tax Deductible donations through the Bucket Fund!  We have 3 days to really make a difference for this filly!

We can help!  Any amount, every single cent is 100% tax deductible to help save this baby who is in urgent need of surgery to restore her sight!  We can do this!

THANK YOU!  Please spread the word!

(All money will be sent directly to the equine hospital performing the surgery.)

To be honest, Donna’s plight really reminds me of when Mama Tess went into ICU and I had to make the decision to keep going or to stop… so difficult when funds were the issue.  At that time, you all came to my rescue and essentially – you all saved MT – something I will never forget…

Immediate surgery can restore her sight. If they wait, she will be permanently blinded.
