In Honor of MAMA TESS, let’s help some OLD GALS! Meet LUCY and GLORY, our DECEMBER BUCKET FUND mares!

This Christmas Season… I’d love to honor Mama Tess by supporting some lovely, elder mares.  Both have some health issues, but with medical care, TLC and groceries, they can live longer, healthier, mobile lives!  They can have what Tess couldn’t keep… Life!

For me, to see an old mare that has all of her faculties but just needs some love and medical attention – and is CURABLE – wow…, I just want to help!

So, I bring you 2 mares this holiday season…  Please help me help them, in honor of MT.  :)

If you donate and would like a donation certificate, just ask for one in the comment box of the Pay Pal checkout, and I’ll email a printable certificate to you.

This is how Lucy looked when she came into the Golden Carrot on November 11th. She is doing much better in just a few weeks of food and TLC!

This is how Lucy looked when she came into the Golden Carrot on November 11th. She is doing much better in just a few weeks of food and TLC!

Look at that face!  She came into The Golden Carrot Equine Rescue about 250 lbs underweight.  She needs what any older horse needs after not receiving any attention for a while… some medical help and food.  But what compels me about Lucy is that she wants to live!  Just look at that face!

A note from The Golden Carrot:

Dr. Zadick has seen her and feels she is 250 pounds underweight; has a slight heart murmur; a little sand in her guts; melanoma on her left jawline, white line disease in her front hooves, slightly diminished sight in her right eye; and one long-ish tooth that doesn’t affect her grinding too much right now, so he wants to wait until she gains at least 100 pounds before sedation and dental work. He agrees with “30” as an age…. and sedation is difficult enough with older horses!

Meantime, she eats like the proverbial horse – is drinking, peeing and pooping great, and slowly socializing….  She calls every morning for someone.  Breaks my heart to think she’s been separated from a friend at this vulnerable stage of her life.  But hopefully she’ll make new friends here …. Pepe is  beginning to approach her; Diamond and Montego have both made overtures … but for a while, she just needs to heal.

Can we help her heal?!  Yes, we can!  Thank you so much!!

ANOTHER LOVELY, ELDER GAL… MEET GLORY!

Glory got to me because she is an old pony – and I love old ponies (I have 2!).

Also, her story just ate at me… how do these pocket ponies, the ones that follow you around and understand humans as if they were once greatly loved – end up on slaughter trucks?  How does this happen?!

Here is a note from The Golden Carrot:

Glory was saved at a small unknown auctin by HiCaliber Rescue as she stood, tiny with a huge saddle on her back, facing the kill buyer. And she’s just lovely, sweet as sugar, was obviously once someone’s much loved pet. Sick to think of her getting on that slaughter truck.  She’s gaining weight, and we need some time to bring her feet into good shape (she has a quarter crack up to her coronet band) but otherwise, is doing great.

Can we help this sweet, once greatly loved, pony?!  Yes!  Thank you!
